Working on a smart TV?
« on: February 04, 2014, 11:43:52 AM »

Hi,
I have a sony bravia TV and would like to see movie stored in a USB HD driver that I would connect in this router.

I saw posts with problems but I did not see anyone that solved the problem.

Is there anyone?

Thanks,
M

I recommend going with the DIR-645...

Yep.
Right now I found this post:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45267.msg164367#msg164367

where you said "You do understand that DLNA isn't a feature on this model router right?"

and other people have problem on this router and their smart TV:

I'm getting confused.

They told me that this router is good if I want remote control (besides DNLA). The "L" in the name means this (it should be related to the name of this service provided by d-link).

Since I do not need this feature, they told me to go for dir-645  or dir-657 instead of dir-845L.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Yes, The L in the model string means Cloud services.

Honestly, IMO, I would go with the 826L/845L. The 645 and the 657 have been on the market for a few years now and FW support is slowing down and I presume these routers will go into Phased out status sooner than the 826L/845L will. The 657 has had limited FW version releases, even for me, it's been a good router however there are a couple of issues that I've been trying to get fixed by D-Link and not sure if that will come about. Here in the NA region, the 645 is a good router and has had some good updates however I believe that has come to an end unless there is a critical problem found.

The EU region is a bit separate on how they handle there products and FW issues  from other regions so I don't know what, if any releases are forthcoming for the 645 and 657 in the EU region.

I recommend that you give the 826L/845L a review and check it out. Just because they have the the Cloud services features doesn't mean you have to use it. You can leave the router un-registered for that. You might find it handy in the future.  ;)

I have the 826L router here and do enjoy it. I just don't have a TV that has network abilities so I really can't test that. I can test some with my Boxee Box as a streamer.

Mmmmm the smart tv is cited in "The Gadget Guru" section
where is suggested DIR-820L.

The funny thing is that model does not provide DLNA.

I'm getting confuser than before :)

You might ask them if they officially tested that TV with the 820L. Ask them if they are aware of the DLNA support for it.

Ya, the 820L and 810L are the low end models for the 8 series L routers...

I'd personally go with the 826L or 845L versions...
