Dir-657 compatible with Samsung Smart TV?
« on: December 13, 2013, 12:32:05 AM »

Hi,

I have a problem with my DIR-657 router. I attached an external HDD (Seagate 2TB 3 partitions NTFS) to my router and I activated the DLNA server function of the router. I can access the HDD only from my laptop, but I can not access it from my Samsung 32UE6100 TV (this is the reason why I bought this router). I tried it with the TV connected by LAN wire and also by wireless connection to the router and no success.

I can access the HDD from my TV only if I connect it directly to the TV USB port, but I want to use it connected to the router, so I can access it from both Laptop and TV.

Does anyone have any idea how can I make the HDD visible to the TV?

Thank you!

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
  • Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
  • Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
  • Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option.
    • Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
    • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
    • Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

How is the TV connected? Wired or Wireless?

We have been tracking an issue with Media Server and USB not appearing in Windows Networking. I presume since your LT is seeing it that it's working for you. In this case there is a possibility that the TV is not seeing it and is not displaying it correctly. I recommend that you contact the Mfr of the TV for support. I presume there maybe some format or connection that either the TV is specifically needs or there could be a configuration fault or the TV is faulty.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your fast reply!

Unfortunately, the TV is well set up and it supports DLNA and it is able to view the HDD over another routers. so it seems to be a problem related to the router settings. the reply you gave to me is the "standard" one that I saw on the forum and already made these settings, but with no result.

I am looking forward to receive any new hints from you!

thank you!

Best regards,

Ok, I'd get ahold of D-Llink again and see if they can fix it on there side. I've forwarded this onto D-Link here in the NA region. I can't guarantee anything as we are in different regions.
