DHP-1565 & SIP
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:51:03 PM »

Hi,

Has anyone been able to get a DHP-1565 to work well with SIP/VOIP? If so, I'd be interested in knowing how you configured everything. At present I can only getting it working at all with a combination of putting the voipfone in the DMZ and turning on SIP ALG. Even then it only works intermittently (doesn't register, or loss of sounds in one or both directions). My provider thinks the SIP ALG is causing the intermittent problems but turning it off stops the whole thing from working.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,UO

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Any QoS or Traffic Shaping features enabled?

What Mfr and model is this VoIP device?

Ok making sure that your ISP Modem is giving a public IP address to the router. Very important.

Try testing with TS and QoS off and keeping the VoIP in the DMZ.

What Mfr and model is this VoIP device?

Let us know the results...

The router reports an IP address that is publicly accessible.

No QoS or TS = VoIP line won't register.
Just TS on = VoIP line will register. Can't comment on the intermittent problems yet.

The VoIP device is a Cisco SPA112 VoIP adaptor.

You may need to phone contact D-Link support about this. I'm exhibiting a similar issue with a micro cell on different model router. I've asked D-Link to look in to that here. Since your in the EU region, I recommend phone contacting support there and ask for level 2 or higher support.

Does this router have something called "True Gigabit Routing" under Setup/Internet/Manual? Just curious...

Thanks, I'll contact them next time I'm at home in business hours :-)

True Gigabit Routing is listed as an option, but it's not enabled.

Running with QoS off worked, but we still had the intermittent problems.

Thanks for the pointer to TGR - it's easy to miss that setting. I'm currently running with TGR on, SIP ALG on, but no port forwarding or DMZ. The VoIP device now registers correctly, I'll run it in this state for a few days and report back if it affects the intermittent problems.
