websites not reachable on my server
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:44:38 PM »

On my server I host several websites.
Last Monday we got our FttH-connection and I'd set up my D-Link DIR 655 to manage our server and other computers.
In the webconfig of my router I set up the Virtual Server for several applications (Telnet - 23, HTTP - 80, HTTPS - 443, FTP - 21, SMTP - 25, POP3 - 110, IMAP - 143 and also ports 20, 22 en 81) redirected to my server's IP address.
For these items the private port and the public port of each item is the same port number; the protocol is TCP for these items. I didn't change the options Schedule ("Always") and Inbound Filter ("Allow All").

The DNS of my domains (samendienen.nl and some other domains) is set to my new IP-address.

May be I forgot some other settings in my D-Link-router.

Who can tell me what I have to do to make my websites reachable?

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Wow, where to start. First, what do you mean "make my site reachable"? Are not getting access via your own network, outside of your network, or neither? When did you change your DNS? Standard TTL is 24hours, has it been that long? Can ping it by IP? Is your DIR-655 in your Verizon's gateway DMZ? Or is it bridged? If not, that would be my first guess. Also, you may want to check your Verizon's TOS. If its a Resi account, I doabt they allow it.

What HW version is your router?
Hardware version B1

Quote
What FW version is currently loaded?
Firmware version 2.00

Quote
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
XMS - www.xmsnet.nl, it's an ISP only providing fiberconnections.

Quote
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
Genexis version 2 (see http://www.xmsnet.nl/uploads/editor/Handleiding_XMS_pdf.pdf, page 4, sorry - manual only in Dutch)

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
They were not filled in yet :(

Quote
Turn off QoS options.
OK

Quote
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Where can I find this option?

Quote
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
It's already turned on.

Quote
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
In the drop down box there is only one computer listed, but it is listed twice using different IP-addresses. It's not the computer I am working with. Also my other computers are not listed...

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Where do I have to set these options?

I want to enable viewing and visiting my websites for anyone in the world, try http://guido.vanharten.net.

I do not have a computer which is NOT connected to the internet through the router, so I have to contact one of my friends, colleagues, etc. I'll reply later.

When did you change your DNS?
I changed it last Monday.

pinging to my IP (85.223.42.70) is ok.

Hmmm, I don't understand this...

Yea, this is way beyond the scope of this forum. This is a consumer grade router, and not really designed for running a full pledge web server off a circuit. But if you want to start, I would connect the web server directly to the Genexis 2 device and call your ISP and see if they can access it. If not, I would seek proffesional advise. Without any understanding of how the ISP equipment, your server, the DNS, and so mant other questions..

I forgot one thing (stupid me  ;D). I had to switch on all the items in Virtual Server which I have to turn on using the check box at the left side.

There is one other problem which I think it's also a router problem (I didn't change any settings onto the webserver; my previous router didn't have that problem): I have also a mail server defined. My webserver should fetch the mail from the ISP's server, so our network clients could read the mail from our service.

Since my Dlink-router is working, the server doesn't fetch the mails from ISP's server.
(in Virtual Server ports 110 en 143 are open).

Can anybody tell me where the router is blocking the mail?
