DAP-1555 and PS3
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:09:09 PM »

Hi.  I've been doing some research on how I can stream my video and audio content from my DNS-323 to my PS3 wirelessly.  It has to be wireless because my PS3 is located on the ground floor of our house and the DNS-323 and my router (DIR-655) is on the second floor.  Tried many times to connect the PS3 to the router but the connection is inconsistent (i.e. sometimes it connects and streams okay, other times the PS3 does an "error in connection").

I found this forum on the DAP-1555 and wondered if it's possible to connect this device to my PS3 and stream my A/V files.  If the answer is yes, will it also increase streaming speed?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

My router settings:

Firmware 1.10ww
Mixed n and g
Auto channel scan checked
Channel width - 20 Mhz
Invisible
WPA-Personal
Auto (WPA or WPA2)
TKIP and AES
Interval 3600

My PS3 has the latest firmware (2.42 I think) and network configuration is set on automatic.

Yea it should. PS3 is 802.11G only and the 655/DAP1555 should give you 802.11N speeds.

Thanks Lycan, appreciate the positive response.  I live in Asia and noticed that this particular model (DAP-1555) is not yet available.  There is another model (an access point - DAP 1353), which after looking at the specs, also functions as a bridge.  Will this work with the PS3 the same way as DAP-1555 would?  Thanks again.

I'm not familiar with that unit, as it is not a North American product.

sounds stupid but under advance setting have you chosen ethernet client?

the default is wlan which assume the IP of the PS3. If you have more than one device connected to the 1555 I would choose ethernet client.

I did so on mine and it made a big difference. Still doesnt stop the logs from reporting wireless link up and down 50 million times but the connection is better

If PS3 is 802.11G and 655 and 1555 are 802.11 N, it is always backwards compatible. Meaning 802.11 G is backwards compatible to 802.11N.. In short, 802.11G devices can never get 802.11N speed.
