network help
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:43:21 PM »

Hey guys,

Ok I just bought a new D-Link Dir-628 wireless router to replace an old linksys that kept crapping out on me. So far so good.
But here is the question, I have a laptop, desktop, xbox on my network which is all good, but I also have a tenant in our house that needs to use the internet as well. Is there a way that I can control that tenants access? How do I make it so he cannot see our computers, but still get internet access? is this even possible?
I dont want to lock him out of everything, just limit his downloading and not be able to view our computers.
Not sure if this is possible or not, thanks.

Get their MAC address and give them a different DNS scope that is on another subnet.  If you use the  default 192.168.0.xxx then give the other tenents something like 10.10.1.xxx.
