Title: New FW 1.04b08: SSH feature does not work?
Post by: Morkel on July 22, 2015, 02:26:08 AM
Hi,

I installed FW 1.04 yesterday and read that SSH should now be supported.
I tried to connect to the 327L
Code: [Select]
ssh admin@192.168.0.100but after entering the admin password I got:
Code: [Select]
WARNING: Your password has expired.
You must change your password now and login again!
passwd: No such file or directory
Connection to 192.168.0.100 closed.
Seems this feature is broken since passwd is missing or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Morkel

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I presume they would not. You should ask about it.

do they also support non officeal beta versions?

FW 1.04b08 is official and they must support it.

P.S. on https://eu.mydlink.com/download#  you can download new FW  1.04b10 - maybe your problem already  fixed.

v1.04B08 is not a beta...

FYI the "b"## is not a beta designation rather a "build" number.

Still not working on v1.04B10.
Got:
Quote
ssh admin@192.168.0.100
but after entering the admin password I got:
WARNING: Your password has expired.
You must change your password now and login again!
passwd: No such file or directory
Connection to 192.168.0.100 closed.

Is there any solution?
Thanks

Hi there,

Were there any official solution for this issue? I'm suffering from the same issue.
It would be relly nice if I could solve this without phone support...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Does anyone have a  solution to this problem? I own two 327Ls, tried all  firmwares from 1.4 to 1.6b2, still getting 'expired password' and can't ssh in.

I have contacted the regional D-Link support and they have answered "the ssh client PTTY provides you with the solution of the issue that is not due to a NAS issue!" To be honest I do not understand what they would like to mean with such answer ?!? In fact the PUTTY simply says:
'WARNING: Your password has expired.
You must change your password now and login again!
passwd: No such file or directory'

Therefore the un-useful suggestion from the ssh client is to change the password and login again. This is exactly what I did (changed the password with the NAS management web page for the admin account - the only one allows for ssh access), but the issue with ssh access is not fixed. Instead I see that the ssh client says 'passwd: No such file or directory' and, in my opinion, it looks like that the password management script of the NAS software package is not where it should be or the executable attribute is not correctly set. Or am I wrong?

It almost sounds like that the PW maybe needs to be changed for root or admin? Can you get telnet into a non SSH command maybe? I'll ask around and see if I can get some eyes on this.  :o

Disclaimer: we don't have a DNS-327L box to do tests on therefore my comments are based on over 20 years experience of IT.

First, what are you using as an SSH server/client?  Is it an addon or built into the firmware?  If it is an addon where did you get it?

Once we have the answers to those questions we might be able to solve the problem.  We use OpenSSH here at work and generate our own security cert/keys.

If you are using PuTTY where did you get it from?  It might be a very good idea to ask the people that ported it about how to reset a password, after all they should know.

The NAS refuses any attempt to telnet into a non SSH command.
The SSH accept the username 'admin', but as soon as the correct password is input the connection is closed with the above mentioned password issue.

Can you try using 'root' as the log in? ???

According to the firmware release notes version 1.04 has a SSH configuration feature.  Has anyone with this password problem actually setup SSH for their unit?  Such a setup would include setting users and passwords.

Has anyone to suggest eventual specific configuration for the SSH client to login into the DNS-327. I have tried with the default settings using PuTTY and Bitvise SSH clients without any success. The section for the 'admin' user closes as soon as the correct password is input, and it is not possible to do anything with the 'root' user I tried with different passwords including no password and the same password of 'admin' without any success. Apparently it should be supported (there is a specific enable in the web configuration page of the NAS), but actually it is not working. I opened a assistance ticket with D-Link, but they bring me around with un-usefull  at all suggestions like "please reinstall the NAS from scratch" or "this is the link with the PuTTY manual" ... ?!? :(

Yes I also tried that, but it does not accept any password ...

Could you please provide screen grabs of the SSH setup page or pages taken from the web UI.  There may be some indication there as to what is/isn't happening.

Since an expired password is mentioned: Have you tried setting a new password for the admin user after enabling ssh? It's a long shot but it might be worth a try...

Tested now with 327L and 1.10B02 fw.

root login works without password.
admin asks password and change password during login doesn't work.
any other user works.
