6rd support on DIR-655 A4?
« on: July 22, 2013, 12:28:29 PM »

My DIR-655 A4 is currently on firmware 1.31EU, which has very limited IPv6 support. It can only forward proto 41 to another machine, which can set up a 6in4 tunnel. This has worked fine for years.  :-*

My ISP has now provided me with the settings to configure IPv6 via 6rd, a different tunneling method, and I'd like to try it. It seems to be their method of deploying dual-stack so I'd like to help them test it.

According to this page another provider, Swedish Tele2, succesfully uses 6rd on the DIR-655 B1 (and some other models), but makes no mention of the A4 hardware. Check the screenshots on that page to see how the UI looks. My 1.31EU firmware doesn't have that screen.

Before I attempt to flash my router to the newest 1.36EUb01 firmware, can someone please confirm that firmware supports 6rd on the A4 hardware? I found no mention in the changelog, but who knows...

Thanks for any info you can provide,
Martijn!

Rev A model DIR-655 routers will not support any form of IPv6 Protocol. Only Rev B's support IPv6. You'll need to get into a Rev B model DIR-655 or into a newer model DIR series router that has IPv6 features.

Thanks FurryNutz. I was afraid this revision might be getting a bit old.

I guess I'll go on a hunt for something that is a bit newer, and preferably has better WiFi range as well.

I've been enjoying the DIR-826L and 868L very much. Hope you find something that works for you. Let us know what you end up getting.  ;)
