DIR 645 stopped working after win 10 update.
« on: July 04, 2019, 07:04:51 AM »

For some reason my DIR 645 router stopped working after I got an update in win 10. Now if I UNPLUG the internet cable physically from the router and plug it back in....I can get online for about three minutes max....then the router stops working again. I have noticed that the airplane mode has automatically come on also.....I did NOT turn it on myself...windows 10 did apparently. I have tried several things such as resetting the TCP/IP settings to default, Updating my ethernet driver which is a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller. Turned off any apps that startup on my computer. Unchecked the option where the modem can automatically power down to save power. I cannot even have it stay online long enough to complete downloading new firmware for it. I have done everything I can think of and this problem STILL does not go away....Maybe it is time for a new router?

Hardware is A1

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

1.05
  • What region are you located?

United States

  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

It is wired directly to the computer

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

My internet provider is JEA I live in Jackson Tenn and it is the local fiber optic cable service ...I DO NOT KNOW my modem configuration

  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?

Fiber Optic

Windows 10 will not be a cause of the router not working.
Do other devices or other Windows 7 PCs or Mac work with the router?

No

What wireless and or wired adapter is installed in this PC? Mfr and model?

Directly cabled no wireless card

How long have you had the router?

I think about 4 or 5 years?

All I know is that it was working before the update...perfectly! No reason it should have suddenly quit and started airplane mode automatically? Now I cannot even update the firmware because updating firmware takes more than about the three minutes I have before it goes offline. And I do not know if you can hook up a USB to it and install the firmware for that can you? I think the USB is for saving online information. I have even tried resetting to factory default! Nothing works!

Download v1.06 from the link at the stop of this forum.
Use this link to load the v1.06 FW file and see if this changes anything:
Emergency Recovery Mode

If this fails to bring the router back to full operation, you'll need to get into a newer generation router.

Looks like I am going to have to buy a new router....it still will not let me go to 192.168.0.1....keeps timing out....looks like it is the trash bin for this router! Thanks for all your help though.

Ok, Thanks for letting us know. The 645 was a good router.
Might check out the DIR-878. Good router. Will be something that would be a good replacement for the 645.  ;)

Good Luck.
