Unable to connect to ext. HDD on DIR-860L using SharePort
« on: January 20, 2014, 08:12:45 PM »

So I am having trouble connecting to my ext HDD that is connected to my router using USB 3.0. I am using the SharePort App on my iPhone 4S to access it. When I open the app it gives me 2 options, Remote Access and Local Access. I am able to connect to the ext. HDD through Local Access when I am on my home wi-fi. I am also able to connect to the ext. HDD through the mydlink webpage and the remote IP that the router gave me for access.

I am able to login through remote access. It shows my Router, but when I click on my router it shows that it is logging in again. Then it pops up with an error. The error states "Authentication failed. Please make sure your username and password are correct. [5003]"

When I first bought the router and set it up, I was able to connect using remote access. I had to reset the router to default settings, and now I am unable to connect. I have tried messing with all the setting and looking online, but nothing works. Please help!

Here is the info I have seen asked in other posts:
What Hardware version is your router? A1
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? 1.05
What region are you located? America
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Wireless
Has a Factory Reset been performed? Yes, this caused the issue
Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates? No
Was the router working before any firmware updates? Yes

Was a user name account and password added to the Storage section of the router? Yes
Does the router have the Shareport web access enabled? Yes

Can you confirm the FW version again? "Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? 1.05"
I don't see v1.05 being released for the NA region...

Are you logging in with the routers Admin account or the SP user account that you set up?
What format is the HDD?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations at remote location
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.

Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Is Java updated?

According to the interface, I am running Firmware v1.05. I don't know why I have v1.05. When I setup the router, I used the web interface and went to the firmware setting. It had a button to check for the latest firmware. I pushed the button and it loaded v1.05. The firmware date is 10/23/2013 18:44:00

I am having issues with the shareport app on iPhone. I am able to connect to the HDD using the web interface. Its the app that is giving me issues. The ext HDD is connected to the router using the USB 3.0 port

I am logging into the app using mydlink account. The app never asks me for my router admin or sp account info. The HDD is a seagate and is formatted using NTFS

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations at remote location

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? I use cable
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have? Motorola surfboard Model: SB6141
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? 15Mb down/2Mb up

I am unable to connect through the app on wi-fi or 4G using the AT&T cell network

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

I do not have anti-virus or firewall programs on my iPhone

Web Browser Configurations
I don't feel this applies because I am using the shareport app
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.

It's frustrating that this worked when I first setup the router. But after I reset it to factory settings, it lost the capability. I tried removing the router from my mydlink account. It reset the router to default setting again. I configured the router again and I still can not connect to the HDD.

Hmm Interesting, maybe there shipping v1.05 have haven't posted it yet to the web site.

What size is this HDD?

I have a 250Gb drive connected to my 826L. As soon as I get it configured, I'll test my 4S out as well. Not same FW or model however SP is same platform I believe. I can use the mydlink Lite app and can connect to the router.

I'll check this out this evening.

Only thing I might do once again, Turn off everything, do a factory reset with out the HDD attached. Be sure it's removed from the mydlink account as well. Then set up from scratch like you did the first time if you can remember. Then attach the drive, enable SB access and accounts. Try accessing it before you register with mydlink. I don't think you need to reg to get access via SP.

Sorry for the late reply, it was a crazy week!

So I have a Seagate_GoFlex_PBL91 2TB drive connected to it.

I tried connecting a 4GB thumbdrive to the router and I could see the files from the website and local access under the shareport app. But I could not see it under the remote access

I reset the removed the hard drive and reset to factory settings. After setting the router back up, I still could not see the Hard drive using the remote access on the shareport app. I then setup the mydlink account and I still could not see the hard drive through the app. I could see the hard drive through the website and local access on the shareport app.

If I had not connected to the hard drive when I first took the router out of the box and set it up, I would say it is the app messing up. But I can't tell if its the app or the router giving me the Authentication failed error.

Is there anything else I can try?

Is anyone else able to connect a hard drive to their DIR-860L router and see it through the app? I would like to compare settings...

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with my 250Gb drive connected to my 826L. I presume this maybe a problem effecting the app or the app service. I recommend that you phone contact D-Link support, ask for level 2 or higher support and see if you can get help or some information on this.

So I got it to work, but in a weird way!

I was using the "mydlinkSharePort" app to connect to the HDD. It was not working using remote access. I deleted the app and was going to re-download it when I saw the "SharePort Mobile" app. This is the app that the dlink support pages showed. I downloaded that one and set it up. The app had a menu to input the routers username and password. I was able to connect to the HDD, but the app only works when you are on the same wifi network as your router.

I then re-downloaded the "mydlinkSharePort" app. For some reason I was now able to connect to the HDD using the remote access login. I don't know if the "SharePort Mobile" app somehow configured the "mydlinkSharePort" to allow remote access or it finally just worked. All I know is now I am able to connect to my HDD where ever I am!

Thanks for all the help and I hope this helps others with this issue!
