DGL-4500 1.21 B03 A1 vs. A2 Hardware
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:48:08 AM »

I'm looking for concise feedback on 1.21b03 with both a1 and a2 hardware users. I've started a new thread because Ru_Fi_Oh is no longer handling this and I'd like to get an idea of what people think about this firmware.

Please no editorializing or complaining about the product. I am simply looking to see if the firmware corrects EVERYBODYS issues or just A2/A1 or what.

Please leave DETAILED to the point information. Ranting will be deleted and your account will be banned.

A1 user.

No more lockups

But at times download speed, both over LAN and wireless will slow to a crawl, upload speeds are always fine, will power cycle and everything will be better - very random when it will(sometimes twice a day, sometimes fine for over a week) but it does happen.

Thats good info. Are you using QoS? Does disabling the QOS seem to correct this slowdown?\

I have yet to upgrade however I was wondering if something would be possible that may help you on your endevor.  I always seem to notice the biggest question is what is everyones settings,  wouldn't it be possible to have people with issues just do a backup and then perhaps PM you with them so you could get the fullest picture of what settings everyone is using,  and then compare it with issues the different people are having occur?

Just a thought that may help.

using 1.21.  A1 .  I am experiencing lockouts about once a week since 9/18/09 release (a big improvement!!)  Lockouts primarily involve wireless clients.  When I reboot router all is fine.

I have an A1 experiencing no lockups i have QOS enabled but no rules at the moment and have DNS relay disabled. I find with DNS relay enabled i was getting slower speeds and random disconnects on wireless. With it disabled everything seems to be fine.

I'm on A1 hardware and have been running the 1.21NA(beta 3) firmware for one month.  This has cured all my lockups.  I still get the very rare (< 1 per week) slowdown for 1-2 mins.  Of course this can be due to an external issue with my provider.  I have always had this issue with various routers.  But the slowdown always clears it's self up with out needing a reset of the router.

BTW, I have no "special" settings.  I just used the setup wiz for config for wireless and left ALL settings at their defaults.

A1 User here

No connection drops at all since the newest firmware (1.21B03)

I have noticed that the wireless could use some work

I have a 10Mbit download and a 1Mbit upload.  I was using wired and could obtain those speeds downloading large files or streaming.

I switched to wireless n and after tinkering for a while the best I could sustain on a download was between 200-400Kbps.  The downloads would start out at around 1-3Mbps and quickly diminish over the course of about a minute.

I have two machines with wireless n cards in them.  one is an intel based chipset and the other is a rockwell.  I get an average of about 180Mbps-210Mbps on both and the router is in the next room.  Ive tried following the guide for 300Mbps for wireless and it does stay at that until I start surfing the web/gaming/streaming multimedia then the connection becomes very unstable speed wise and Ive seen it go down to around 60Kbps at times.  The only way Ive got it to be semi stable is to disable security completely (yes I know this is a security hole).

Any tweaks for the A1 that I should be made aware of to even my connection out, does the A2 have this problem?

Ive tried switching wireless channels and that still didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?  Other than the wireless, this thing hasnt been a problem.

Good up time on A1 HW with 1.21 B3 FW. Wired connections and Xbox Live performs great. No drops or reboots.

I'm getting a 270Mb Connection on a Macbook Pro with the N only wireless. Been doing 200Mb file downloads over it and usually see about 140-190KB down avg. Depending on the site. I need to run some xfers on internal Lan to see what there speeds are. Home network is all Gb Lan. Have seen some drops in connections using wireless. Haven't seen any in a while though. Would like to see improvements to stability on wireless N.

IP Reservations, SPI, Gameing and Gamefuel is enabled, Dynamic Defrag is off along with DNS relay.

Yea dropping security is not to good. Try disabling DNS relay that may help. I tried 10 days with DNS relay enabled and 10 days without it. The 10 days with it enabled i was getting random wireless drops and reconnects and slower speeds both wireless and wired but i did not get any lockups. With DNS relay disabled i did not get any disconnects, lockups, or experience slow downs. Overall i do think the wireless does still need some work other then that everything seems fine. I'm also an A1 user.

Yay!  it worked!  no more connection variating!

This is EXACTLY what I did.

1. reset everything to defaults
2. Disabled WISH
3. Disabled DNS Relay

Picture below of my wireless settings if anyone is curious

and thats all I did, fast and stable now.

Thanks Legoinx!

I wish there are some A2 users to share their experience.
But now it seems that A1 users are giving postive feedbacks.
It's good to hear those feedbacks.

well looks like I spoke to soon....wireless speed still fluctuates but its not NEARLY as bad as it was before.  instead of 108Kbps-450kbps im now getting about 550Kbps-700Kbps on average with large downloads.

Still not so good for gaming.  me and one of my friends tried playing borderlands over wireless tonight and the lag wasnt bad at first but as the game progressed the lag got worse and worse to the point where I had to disconnect because I was jumping all over the screen.  He was hosting the game.

So IDK guys, its better with the settings I tweaked but its still not what it should be.

Everything seems fine for me as well (A1) on the WAN and LAN side of things.  The only thing that needs fixing is the wireless errors I get...I had none on 1.02 but once I upgraded to this beta, I suddenly have them.
