Connection Problems
« on: February 19, 2011, 11:02:20 PM »

Every few days or so I find that I have to reset my DGL-4500 because I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. Within a few seconds of being reset my internet works flawlessly, but it is quite annoying to have to constantly reset it when my old school Linksys router never had any problems. Does anyone know why this keeps happening and how I could fix it?

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Make and model?

What current firmware version is loaded on the 4500?
How are you connecting to the router? wired or wireless?

I'm using cable. My modem is a Motorola SB5102. My firmware is 1.21NA, and I'm using a wired connection. I use a wired connection for my desktop pc and wireless for 2 laptops.

it's been known that v1.21 on some routers was hanging the router. I would go head and save ur current config to file then do a factory reset, update to v1.23, do one more factory reset, then see how it goes. Let us know.

I would set the WiFi mode to single mode G if you don't have any devices that use A/B or N. If you have some N, then go mixed G and N. Keep us posted.

I would like to add both the modem and router are both brand new. I bought both within 1 month.

Rite now im hard wired to modem no router !

What Version of firmware is loaded on the router at this time?

What HW version is it?

How are you connecting to the router when normally using the router in line with the modem? Wired or Wireless?

What devices are connected to the router?

Are there any log entries?
Can you test Single mode G at 2.4Ghz.

When the router goes down are you connected wired or wireless? I'm curious if the router does with with the WiFi set to OFF for a test. Can you confirm this? Yes I do understand that your wanting Wireless to work well. Just need to see if the router is seeing the same thing if WiFi is set to off. If the router is doing this when WiFi is off then need to track this issue if we can.

Also when you did the update, please detail us the steps you took. It's recommended to do the following"
Do a factory reset from the web page tools.
Upgrade the FW.
Do one more factory reset after the upgrade.
Test.
