Our church currently has a D-Link 628 as the primary router connected to Verizon DSL service.  Because our current primary router does not reach wirelessly to a 2nd building we need to install a 2nd device  (access point) there. We have already run a cable to that location in order to connect the 2nd device as a (access point).

Can anybody recommend a suitable wireless access point device that is compatible with the D-Link 628 we have.

We would like to restrict access in this second area via some guest pass or other log-in and to disallow those users from accessing the primary router and wireless zone.

Since access to power at the access point is a problem, is there a way that we can power the access point from the D-Link 628 over the CAT5 connecting cable.
Thank you for your advice

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Please review this:
There are several models listed that can be used as a wired AP:
Bridge Mode vs Relay vs Acess Point (AP) / Routers vs Dedicated Access Points (AP)

I recommend one of the DAP 15xx or 16xx series...

Let us know if you need any more help.
