FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:57:51 AM »

This thread is in regards to what users of the DIR-826L would like to request DLink to review and consider adding features to the routers FW and operation. Also this thread includes any reports of bugs that are re-producible, that should be reviewed by DLink seen by users. Please be professional, detailed, concise and tactful when posting the requests and bug details.
Ranting or Demanding anything will not get us anything. There are no guarantees.

Please keep other subjects, topics and questions to other threads and posts. This thread is just a central list of Features and Bugs for review by DLink.

Example:
FEATURE REQUESTS:
Firmware update file process performs a Automatic Factory Reset after the firmware data has been applied. Would be nice to have the update automatically do a factory reset after the data has been applied to the unit. Some end users are not aware of doing a factory reset after the FW update has been applied and they presume that the unit has been wiped and back to factory settings. It would probably be beneficial if this additional reset was handled by the FW update process automatically.

DEFECTS:
Seems that upon entering the routers password for logging into the web page, then hitting ENTER on the key board, the router does not accept the entered PW and gives a incorrect password message when using Safari and other browsers on Mac OS. Possible Windows OS's as well. Seem that after several tries, the routers web page will accept this operation eventually. Entering the password and then clicking on the login button with the mouse seems to resolve this. The ENTER key on the keyboard should be a valid command and the web page should accept this operation. It was mentioned that Safari was not supported by the router and to use IE or Firefox. Mac OS comes native with Safari and as a end user, Safari should be supported fully by the router. MS does not make a recent version of IE and no longer develops IE for Mac.

There should be an option, like a check box or radio button, to DISPLAY PASSWORD that is typed into a box as input.  Its all well and good for the router to reject a mismatch, but hey, we are typing in the pw, whats the big deal about keeping it secret by not giving the user an option to display it in human readable character format?

I presume for security standard reasons that the display of the plain text pw can't be an option.

You miss my point: while I am entering a password for future use, like during set up or password change,  it is nice to see exactly the case sensitive password characters being entered.  Many secure apps provide a check box or button to "turn on" display of letters when setting up a password.  If I am alone, certainly there is not a security reason to prevent me from seeing what I am typing, if I so choose.

If I am not alone, I do not check the box and I type blind.

If I am alone, as is typical with administrators when administrating, then I click the box and voila I can see the letters I am typing.  Since I am entering a password for future use, it certainly does not need to be kept secret from me for security reasons.  I am not asking for this during login, but rather only when "setting up" a password.  I have seen this feature in other secure wifi setups and noticed it "missing" from D-Link.

Those other apps may not be following secure standards and allowing for text to be typed in the clear and offer this option. D-Link has to follow standards to achieve certifications on products. Other non-DLink products may or may not have the need for certification.

Found a possible bug in the DIR-636L/826L/836L routers...other models possibly effected.
Ping times are not constant when pinging the routers IP address from a local LAN wired PC:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59475.0

Other models tested don't seem affected. Anyone else see this, please post here...with model number and FW version info.

Thank you.

Security patches have been posted for these model routers:

We recommend updating FW using the following process:
