Title: Pre-purchase questions for owners of the 2630 lower model DLINK cams
Post by: BAMoh on July 02, 2016, 06:14:38 PM
I own some of the DLINK 50xx and 942's and have been happy with them, especially the 50xx series.
Regarding the 2630, are the disconnect complaints legit and have merit or is it mostly user error as far as setup and/or having a weak router?

Also, how is the night vision on this cam? I actually use a 942 inside a window which points out. Because there is decent lighting outside at night the cam is OK.
Am wondering if the 2630 has improved night vision?

I'm on f/w 1.01.  You can't turn off the IR lights..  You would have to tape them over.

I can't connect to 5GHz on my Asus router for whatever reasons.   The F/W webpages don't transmit well if I manage.

I really like my DCS-2230 (non-L) for lowlight operation.   Log into the f/w and put it on "low noise". (You can turn off the IR lights, etc).
The DCS-2210L has a wider FOV... I mean it is really big, almost double the 2230, but the image isn't as clear.

I taped up the lights with black electrical tape.  Some light managed to get through and affect my other 2230 window cam.  I guess I could have taped more tighter around the circle (there are 6 ir led's).

Anyways - I was not impressed with the image that was generated for low light purpose.

It was clear but the image was small compared to the 2230.

I wouldn't recommend it.  Also having major issues with F/W timeout and camera running slow in mydlinkapp on same router (Asus AC3200RT) even on 2.4Ghz.

If your distance you are concerned with is 5-10ft, it might work out okay.  Still better options.  But it is really good for indoors and with the IR.  Also of note - it runs really hot.

Upgraded to latest f/w. No more issues on wireless with Asus AC3200RT on 5Ghz.  The previous f/w update notes "enhanced wireless performance".

I taped the front so I couldn't see any red IR light , and with this new f/w update - it was even worse bleed through.

Too much reflection off the glass.

So the 2630L is working well on all wireless since you updated your routers FW?

Seems like the connection issue was router related and not camera...

Ah got cha. So D-Link seems to have fixed the disconnection issue then.

1) Regarding turning off IR, have you tried to go into the advanced customization page? I dont mean at mydlink but the link to advanced settings which is another DLINK site? That is how I tuned off night vision. You should also be able to do it from the IOS or Android app as I can do so for my cams. For me the inability to turn them off is a deal breaker as I cant use them inside a window. Please reconfirm.

2) I use 2.4ghZ and 5GHz for other non-DLINK devices. Never had a problem with them disconnecting. Exception is one 50xx cam but that was fixed by tweaking router settings.

Also has the hidden SSID issue been fixed? I have read it doesnt work with hidden SSID or one needs to make the SSID visible then hide it. But if power goes out the 2630 wont reconnect like the other DLINK cams do. Is this true?

Look on p32 of the manual for the 2630. Just like the other cams you can set it to always day mode. So the IR will be off. Should be able to do this with the app as well.

Looks like the complainers have fled after realizing all the issues were based on user errors.

I've had two 2630L cams at a remote location since March.  They are used indoors in rooms roughly 600sq ft in size.  The 180 degree field of vision is great for me as I'm using this for surveilance of the indoors of a remote property.  The daylight image is crisp and the colors are nicely saturated.

Regarding connectivity, I think the 2630L cams are a little more stable than the 2330L outdoor cams that I have though I did occasionally had some issues.  In my experience with some with the 2630L cams and definitely with the 2330L cams, you want the wifi signal to be present when the cameras try to come online (after a power outage, for instance) because the cameras have a short attention span when trying to link and they give up pretty quickly.  My router/AP is a Netgear R6400 and that takes minutes to boot up after an outage.  The cameras have already given up after that time.  I don't know but maybe this isn't a problem if you have a Dlink Cloud Router.

I use motion detection on the 2630L cams and I let the cams automatically switch to IR mode at night.  The inside of my property is quite sufficiently illuminated for me to see indoors at night.  Motion detection also works quite well.

Yes this camera does run a little warm but I don't see that as an issue.

So if they are at a remote location, how do you get round the time out issue? Have you owned any of the lower models ie the 900 series? Those seem to search a while for a signal. They do give up but its rare and even if down sometimes they come back online. I'm wondering if the 2630 has a shorter or similar duration relative to the 900 series cams.

Hi BAMoh......sorry, didn't see your question in the quote.

I had some success and some failure by configuring the cameras to reboot every 24 hours.  If they lose connection then they sometimes will reconnect when they boot.  While I have two 2630L cameras three 2330L cameras that all reboot every 24 hours, two of the 2330L cameras have gone awol precisely at the time of a reboot and have been gone for days now so I'm on the fence about using that solution.

I think the more solid solution is that I recently put my DSL modem and router/access point on a UPS system that will hold them up for hours.  The cameras are not on the UPS so they will definitely power off in the event of a power outage.  So long as the power outage doesn't exceed the holdup time of the UPS the modem/router/wap and wifi network will be up and waiting for the cameras when power is restored.  In the case of my missing 2330L cameras, I'm waiting for an outage so that I'll be able to disable the reboot feature when they come back.

Sorry, never had a 900 series camera so I can't compare.
