Slow speeds of 6.5 Mbps on NEW 13 inch macboo using bootcamp
« on: November 08, 2008, 02:28:42 PM »

Hey all. I just currently purchased a new Macboo 13 inch.  On Mac OSX.. wireless seems to work just fine. However, when I bootcamp windows up, my speeds are noticeably slow. I use to get perfect reception and speeds with my sony vaio. Now I have to be right next to the router to be roughly getting 103 Mbps. When I walk away, I notice the signal dropping to about 30 percent and thats only down the short hallway about 7 feet total. My reception drops and my speed is dropped SIGNIFICANTLY! Can someone address the problem and help me out? I can't do homework nor browse with slowlike speeds. Thank You. Seems to happen with my netgear too. And I also have not upgrade to the 1.21 firmware yet. Usually it shoudn't drop that low right?

You answered your own question.

"Seems to happen with my Netgear too."

It's your computer - not the router.

Don't ask. Welcome to the world of the MS Windows OS  ;) Now you know why you bought an Apple.
Try another wireless driver. Is it Vista you use? Then disable the new automatic tcp settings. They can cause a lot of delay. Also disabling IPv6 might help.

Could be a bootcamp to hardware issue. Who makes the wireless adapter in the Macbook?

They are either Atheros or Broadcom.

More than likely the new MB's and MBP's are also using the Broadcom chips.

The updates are far and few between when it comes to drivers or any updates.

You said you are running Windows, but which?  XP or Vista?
