Upload speed
« on: April 25, 2013, 09:55:10 PM »

Hello.  I am new here today.  This is a complicated problem for me.  Please help.  I have two routers on my home network.  The primary is a Verizon FIOS Actiontec MI424WR-GEN31.  My second router, in the other half of the house, is a D-Link EBR-2310.  I am using the D-Link to connect more devices in my office.  It is connected to the FIOS router via an Actiontec Powerline adaptor model PWR511K01.  My VOIP phone works fine, as well as my digital recorders.  My problem is the upload speed on my laptop.  When I use the WIFI connection I get upload speed at an average of 27 mbps.  When I connect it to the EBR-2310 it drops to 1 mbps.  The download speed in WIFI is about 34 mbps and about 35 mbps using the EBR-2310.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

The EBR is a G only wireless router. I would presume that the upload speeds will not be much over 1-2Mb at most. Your EBR is old generation technology. If your using the Actiontec as your main host router, you best bet would be to install a new generation WiFi AP and use it as your main host WiFi AP:
D-Link DAP 1360, 1513, 1522, 1525, 1533 series are some of the home and small business class devices.

If your needing more connections for wired LAN devices, install a external GB network switch to add more LAN wired devices to the network if you need.

Thank you for the response.  This is a wired-only EBR-2310.  Firmware Ver. 3.00, Hardware Ver. C1.  I am in Keller, TX.   Verizon says FIOS will only work with a proprietary router furnished by them.

Ya well they'll say anything to keep you from getting an external router. There are many routers that work well with FIOS. Lots of articles on how to set them up too.

Like I said, if the ActionTec is the main host router with DHCP and NAT, then all you need is WiFi, then getting one of the DAP model APs to add on to the modem should be all that you need.

Let us know how it goes.
