Shareport hide system folders?
« on: November 01, 2013, 01:40:37 AM »

Hello fellow d-linkers.

Just upgraded from dir-655 to dir-868L and have a few question some of you geniuses have an answer for.

1. I have connected a WD mybook 3TB to the shareport and the "system volume information" and "$Recycle Bin" is not hidden. Is it possible to hide this?

Had an accident when moving a huge folder and "lost" it in the "System volume information" folder. Only way to move this back where it belong was to boot computer on a linux live cd and connect the mybook directly to the computer  ::)

2. The Properties Button in the Shareport Plus app is not active when selecting the WD mybook?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What version of SP are you using?
Is this folder being seen in windows Explorer?
Not sure if this folder can be hidden with out side effects or causing more problems. Those are Windows system folders.

While the 3Tb seems to be working for you, officially D-Link only seems to support 500Gb drives on there routers using NTFS. Possible that SP may not be fully compatible with your drive and the SP features.

Even though it's nice to have a 3Tb drive on the routers. Eventually data will be so large that that router has to rescan the entire drive for table of contents and will take a long time to scan this drive when it fills up. I recommend that users only use a 500Gb drive and use larger size drives directly connected to a PC ans shared out or if you really need a 3Tb drive to be network shared, get a USB to LAN converter adapter to avoid having the drive shared out on a dedicated PC, the use of router and SP features. Or get into a dedicated NAS devices that is LAN connected.

Hardware version A1
Firmware 1.02 (there is a newer one at the canadian site, but I probably shouldnt use this?)
Norway

SP 4.0.2 R1 (same problems with the older version from cd)

I can see both folders mentioned in windows explorer.
The folders are hidden when i connect the usb drive directly to my computers (Laptop: win 8.1 , HTPC: win 7, mini-pc: win XP)

I have disabled DLNA and iTunes server.

You might try configuring folders under Windows/Control Panel/Folders/Options there should have Show Folder Contents and Hidden System Folders. See if settings of those will help any. Not sure if they will or not, worth a try. I think by default System Folders are hidden...

I guess the linux sw on the router (samba?) doesnt read the attributes on the folder correctly. Not a big thing, but should be hidden in case of a drag and drop accident  ;) If u move a folder into the system volume information folder, u cant move it back if you dont have a linux pc :)

I probably buy a nas in near future :)

Possible...you might phone contact D-Link support, ask for level 2 support and see if there is any information about this. In mean time, just be careful.  ;)
