firmware release 1.04 - discontinued using DIR-2680 again
« on: October 08, 2019, 11:46:39 AM »

the initial firmware release was unusable. Constant stalls/disconnects (on both WLAN and LAN).  Put the unit away in a closet for 4 months until firmware was updated.

I saw v1.03 was released and after 3 hours to update to v1.03 (because the smartphone app would take 10 min and when it got to 100% it would fail.  Numerous attempts to use the PC GUI still failed but finally was successful in moving to v1.03.  Everything worked fine, was getting > 230mbps on spectrum even in far away rooms (strong RSSI signals).

Well, you messed up by pushing v1.04.  Stalls again (both WLAN and LAN ports (because I can see the stalls on my remote AP) and live streaming (ATT TV doesn't buffer enough) so unit is now (probably permanently) and back to using my TP Link Archer C7 (AC1750).  Too bad you can't deliver quality firmware.  Get your ODM to do a better job on SQA.

Also, can't get defender to work anyway.  Downloaded, then defender sends me back to dlink app, where it tells me it can't connect to the server.

Link>Welcome!

Where did you get v1.04 version of FW from??  ???

  • What region are you located?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  Link> >FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Did you try a FW update thru the routers web page? I use only routers web page for doing FW updates.

I personally know a few people that have this router and have never reported issues like your seeing. I also have this router and didn't see issues like this when it was online.

Region is in the US.  I set "automatic" firmware updates (set to 2am-3am) so apparently it updated itself.

I removed the DIR-2680 from service and replaced with my TP-Link (circa 2014) and it works perfectly.  DIR-2680 stalls (both on the wifi and downstream to an ethernet enabled 2nd access point.

Should have Alpha (your ODM) to better testing before releasing.

Service provider:  Charter/Spectrum
(was) connected: through TP-Link Archer C7 (AC1750).

My network configuration was: Cable Modem - to TP-Link direct, hub port (ethernet) to DIR-2680, hub port (ethernet) to Netgear router (11ac 2x2)
Same results by removing the TP-Link, ie. Cable Modem ethernet to DIR-2680 ethernet to Netgear AP

Modem and TP-Link are at one end of the house.  I was using the DIR-2680 in the center of the house as the main router and the Netgear AP was at the other end of the house.  The DIR-2680 RSSI was strong enough that I could remove the TP-Link (I got about the same RSSI from the Dlink @ 25 feet and through 3 walls as the TP-Link AC1750 @ 6 feet behind one cabinet door.

No only have 2 APs covering the house, with TP-Link as the main one.  Downside is on one side of house, weak RSSI and only about 20-25mbps (vs Dlink running over 100Mbps, just not working due to stalls)

What is the distance between the DIR router and the other NG AP? Does the DIR stall if set to be the only main wifi router with all other APs turned OFF?

I would make contact with D-Link support and ask for FW code that works, they may revert you back to working FW.
I guess D-Link pulled v1.03 that I had posted about so they may have found something.

I only tested up to v1.03 and didn't see any issues with my system. That being the main and only wifi router in my house.

distance between location of DIR-2680 is over 25 feet, very little interference as DIR-2680 is too far away (which is why I ran an ethernet cable to the end of the house).

V1.0 was unusable, stuck the system away for 4 months.  v1.03 seemed to be working okay then regressed on v1.04

You can download 1.03 here. Turn off the auto upgrade.  ftp://FTP2.DLINK.COM/PRODUCTS/DIR-2680/REVA/DIR-2680_REVA_FIRMWARE_v1.03B01.zip

After 1.04 updated, did you reset the router? Sometimes that may fix slow connectivity.

I forwarded your post to the router group.

You may want to call tech support at 1-877-453-5465.
