Can I use DAP-1720 Ethernet port to connect another router
« on: July 26, 2019, 07:24:36 PM »

Hi,

I've hooked up my DAP-1720 as a wireless extender successfully, and I have successfully plugged in a wired printer to the DAP1720 ethernet port and connected to it.

However, I would like to connect a router to the DAP1720 ethernet port and then have 3 more ethernet ports I can plug into, through the router, through the DAP-1720.

I have set the router to plug into the DAP-1720 as a static IP, but I cannot connect to it once it's plugged into the DAP-1720.

DAP-1720
HW version A1
F/W version 1.01
Region 1 (USA)

No, haven’t figured it out yet, or if it’s even possible

Ya not sure if a router can be connected. You might try connecting a LAN Gb switch to the port. I presume if the printer works on the LAN port of the DAP, adding a LAN switch may work.

Are you using a secondary router or the main router?  You would need to get a switch to add more ports to the DAP-1720. You can use a second router but you would need to disable DHCP and put a static IP on the router.

I was trying to connect a secondary router.  I believe I had disabled DHCP and made it static, but I can try again to double check.

Something like this may work for that router:
Turning a router into an AP.

Make sure you are only using the LAN ports, not the WAN / Internet port.
