Switching WiFi-Channels
« on: February 15, 2019, 12:35:37 AM »

Hello again!

I settled with the fact of not being able to set static IPs, but now I have another Problem:

While pinging from my stationary PC to both COVR-P2502 devices yields a good ping (per ethernet <1ms, to the Powerline connected device 1-4ms) my WiFi connected devices have latencies of 200-2000ms to my stationary PC inside of my network. I noticed this while trying to access a movie file from my stationary PC from my Tablet connected via WiFi. It did not play seamlessly. This seems way too high considering that the COVR devices are basically directly next to my mobile devices. I am trying to troubleshoot this and as a step wanted to switch the WiFi channels to maybe less crowded ones (There aren't even many other networks around here, maybe 2-3 others, this is not a crowded place). How do I do this? What else can I try to make the connection more stable, should I disable MU-MIMO?

The COVR systems WiFi are based on using Smart Connect. This automatically handles how devices get connected and it automatically sets channels. D-Link doesn't support manual channel selection on COVR systems due to these being a MESH system. DIR series routers that have Smart Connect, those models can disable Smart Connect, then you can set manual channels.

Hello FurryNutz,

thanks for the explanation, I guess I have to trust the device for setting the best Channel itself, then. Is there any other hint you have for optimizing the latency?
I also noticed that after my phone wakes up from sleep, the wifi reconnects. It seems that in sleep mode, it gets disconnected from the network. I am going to test this further but if I am not online after turning off the screen, this would be bad.

If your phone goes to sleep and disconnects, this would be a behavior of the phones system. I would contact the phone Mfr and ask them what official information regarding this is and it's intended design.

Hello FurryNutz,

alright, I have to test things a bit anyways. I think I didn't notice this behaviour with my old WiFi device but I could be mistaken. Thanks for all your help so far, have a nice weekend!
