AP Manager II not discovering any AP at all
« on: December 06, 2013, 12:29:14 PM »

Just installing AP Manager itself is a little bit tricky. You have to install the prerequisites by the book and you can't install the update versions of PostgreSQL.

Now, when I try to hit Discover on the AP Manager, nothing happened. Tried playing around with Advanced Discover to no avail. Anyone can help me with this? I probably must change something in the AP settings itself and/or with the computer where I'm running the AP manager.

I'm using Windows 7 x64 SP1, SNMP trap service started (I'm not sure if it needs to be, let me know), Windows Firewall disabled, I set it to 192.168.0.10 and 255.255.255.0 subnet mask.

DAP-2590 - 192.168.0.50 and 255.255.255.0 subnet mask

Thanks in advance.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at sticker under DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What version of APM are you using? Latest I presume?

Are you directly connected to the DAP or wireless? Does wired connections work?

And all security programs on the PC is temporarily disabled, including any firewalls?

Did you happen to try to install APM with Windows Driver Enforcement disabled? Possible this could interfere with a clean install however shouldn't. Worth a test to try a re-install of APM.

Kind of seems like APM or the installation of it might be hosed.

Any chance you can test with a different PC?

I'm gonna try re-install everything again with Windows Driver Enforcement disabled and let you know.

I've disabled my firewall but are there any other programs/ports/services I should be aware of that could be causing this?

I will also try it in a different PC.

I tried re-installing everything from scratch but still, I couldn't see any AP. SNMP is turned on.

I've also updated the firmware version to 1.25 (latest)

Any more suggestions? Thanks.

I've overlooked one thing in the instruction, it's "Installing of [Model no.] (which is in my case DAP-2590) module". It was mentioned in the manual but I think it should have its own section there to give it emphasis. Everything is working fine now, thanks for all the input. I hope this thread help other people as well.

[You should find this module in the CD that comes with your AP.]  :)

Thanks, this gave me a hint where I was going wrong.  Specifically, you have to go to the product download page, pull down the AP Manager Section and select to download the AP Manager II Module.  In my case, we have mixed DWL-2100 and DAP-2553 units, so while the DAP-2553s have an AP Manager II module, the DWL-2100s dont.  Gonna try DVIEW which has modules for both APs, but I'm guessing that you can't do full management for both APs using the D-Link AP management systems.  Some side notes: work on this completely broke my Open NMS install, and the support for the DAP-2553 seems to be minimal.  I guess you have to have a newer series to access all the functions.  I will probably get my OpenNMS back up and running and get the MIB installed to see what I get from that.

Thanks,
Jeff
