I am using a DCS-5020L via mydlink for viewing live video. I want to also use the motion detector feature to send snapshots of the video. Since mydlink doesn't provide the snapshots I am trying to program the camera directly by using the Advanced Settings button on the mydlink Settings tab for the device. I program the email options in the device's setup section but every time I tell it to send a test image I get the message:
Invalid e-mail setting.
I have tried doing this for both a gmail account and another non-gmail account. I am relatively certain I have the port and security information right for this since I used the same settings as I have in my normal email client.
Anyone have any idea why this isn't working?

can you paste your email settings that you entered in the camera web UI?
-
SMTP Server Address: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Server Port: 465
Sender E-mail Address: username@gmail.com (I use my own username, of course)
Receiver E-mail Address: username@netins.net
User Name: My-Gmail-Username
Password: mypassword
Use SSL-TLS/STARTTTLS: SSL-TLS
Enable the emailing of images to an email account (checked)
Motion/Sound Detection selected
E-mail attached with 6 frames selected
When I click the Test button it says "Invalid e-mail setting.".
I have tried this both with and without the Motion Detection section of Setup being programmed.
I also did NOT save the email settings before clicking Test.

Setting suggestions:
- SMTP Server Port: 587
- User Name: (if you have your username entered as "username@gmail.com", then try "username" and drop the "@gmail.com")
-
Same result with port 587 and user name change.
-
As I mentioned, I've also tried this with another SMTP server that I have an account on. I get the same result with that one. It makes me think there is some other setting on the camera that is preventing the email function from working. Perhaps something about the connection to mydlink?
-
For comparison, my settings (which work) are the same, except port = 587 (as JavaLawyer suggests), and username = myusername@gmail.com (i.e. includes the "@gmail.com").

Are you also using mydlink for remote viewing?

SOLVED!
The email Test function does not work if you have not saved the settings. Once I filled in the fields and saved the settings the test worked correctly.
-
Would you please post the settings that finally worked out for you?

They were the same settings I posted before. All I did was Save them before testing. If I didn't Save them then I got the failure.

Glad you got it sorted.
For posterity, no, I administer the cameras directly and view them through other software. I do not use mydlink for anything.

Old post but still a running problem.
I configured everything as above but the message is: Invalid username/password
I verified the password through browser and reinserted it several times ans saved the config every time but it never worked.

- What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Try typing in the PW.
What characters are in the PW. Beware of using special characters may not work. Use numbers and letters only to test.
