can't send email from DCS-5222L Ip camera
« on: January 01, 2013, 05:59:42 AM »

Few days ago I bought a DCS-5222L Ip Camera…..
I can’t send any e-mail messages from the camera.
My SMTP settings on the ‘Snapshot’ configuration page:
   SMTP Mail Server:                  smtp.gmail.com
   Port:         465
   Username:      DlinkCamera
   Password:      <My gmail email psw>
   Sender E-mail Address:   <My gmail email address>
   Use SSL-TLS:      SSL-TLS
Pushing the ‘test’ button always results in the error message “Send a test mail failure”! :o
An extract from the error log (normal operation):
2012-12-28 21:09:00 Recording 20121228_210839.avi by Motion Detection to SD Card is OK.
2012-12-28 21:09:02 Video Clip 20121228_210839.avi by Motion Detection to FTP is OK.
     2012-12-28 21:09:07 Digital Output(1) is activated.
     2012-12-28 21:09:10 6 Snapshots by Motion Detection to E-mail is failed.  ::)
     2012-12-28 21:09:16 Digital Output(1) is deactivated.

Using exactly the same settings for D-ViewCam on my Windows7 PC and on my NAS are just working fine!!
Who can help me please?

Your username probably shouldn't be "DlinkCamera".  It should be your gmail email address.  The username / password is what the 5222 sends to smtp.gmail.com to log in.  You are sending DlinkCamera / YourPassword which Gmail is of course going to reject.

Thanks for the quick response, but I thought the 'Sender E-mail Address' / password was sent to log in.
Anyhow I tested your advice, but with the same result...I still get the same error.

Problem solved after I power cycled the 5222L!
When reconnecting, the settings were still on an old version. I re-entered them and now they are saved correctly.
And indeed the Username is sent, and not the 'Sender E-mail Address' to the Smtp server.
But was is the use for that 'Sender E-mail Address'?

Sender E-mail Address - This is the email address of the person sending the camera images.

This is what would appear as the "From:" part of the email that is sent.  However, with Gmail, Google always overrides this and uses the real email address (to prevent phishing).
