Drop connections DAP-1360
« on: January 17, 2012, 07:31:48 AM »

First of all apologize for my poor English.

I have two DAP-1360 configured as access point in a educational LAN.
Firmware: 2.11 Rev B1.

The connection (from Windows XP and OSX) drops continuously. I tried multiple settings: WPA, WPA2, TKIP, AES, fixed channel, channel 6, only N, N+G, N+G+B,.... Unsuccessfully.

I'm tired.. What I can do?  ???

Try single mode G available?
Any cordless phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Try other channels like 1 and 11.

Thank you for your response. I comment you:

-The firmware doesn't support single mode G, only: N, N+G, N+G+B. I've selected N+G.

-With Wifi Analizer (Android) the channel less used is 11. I've selected this channel.

-Short GI was ON. I turned it OFF.

-Extra Wireless Protection option doesn't exists.

-The firmware is
Time :     1/8/2000 16:31:44
Firmware Version :     2.11 , Tue,22 Mar 2011

Sorry, continue:

-The firmware is:

            Time :     1/8/2000 16:31:44
            Firmware Version :     2.11 , Tue,22 Mar 2011

-I've searched another firmware, and in http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Wireless/DAP-1360/Firmware I can see:

In Bx/2.11 directory:

[ ]   DAP-1360_FW V2.11b23.release not.doc   30-Aug-2011 12:33    68K
[ ]   DAP1360B1_FW211B23.bin   30-Aug-2011 12:33    2.1M
[DIR]   beta/   26-Nov-2011 12:03    -

In Bx/2.11/beta:

[TXT]   2.11beta.txt   26-Nov-2011 12:03    88
[ ]   DAP1360B1_FW211B29.bin   26-Nov-2011 12:03    2.0M
[ ]   DAP1360B1_FW211B30_beta.bin   26-Nov-2011 12:03    2.0M

I don't know what build was my firmware, but in this ftp there is  2.11b23, 2.11b29, 2.11b30_beta and 2.12.b04(ISRAEL). Do you think than I can install these firmwares?. Could I make a downgrade later?

Thanks you.

Test the newer settings for now and see how it goes. If you see other Wifi near by besides the DAP and the host router then could be that your experiencing some external interferences. No FW will fix this.

After following his instructions, the connection continues dropping, especially when working in google docs ( 20 laptops connected at the same time).

The channel 11 is very free and no cordless phone DECT.

With wired connection (to a 24 ports switch)  everything works fine.

I think I'll try one of the firmwares found in ftp.dlink.ru, but: will I be able to downgrade if it fails?

Thanks you.

Ok, be careful on the updating. I would follow the FW update sticky process to be sure. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hello, I apologize for the delay in response, but so far I have not finished testing.

After the last message, I contacted technical support from D-Link. His answer was:

-Do not install any firmware that was not that they should tell me.

-Load once the same firmware that was on the access point from ftp://ftp.dlink.es/DAP/DAP-1360/Firmware/B1/2.11b23/

-Make several tests,  that I done before, with channels and different configurations.

-Put the access point mode "Only wireless G", ignoring my complaint that my firmware did not allow that.

-Tell me that the access point could not support more than 10-12 clients connected simultaneously, although this appeared nowhere in the technical specifications.

-Tell me that he use MAC filtering by ignoring my firmware only supported 8 clients list filtered by MAC.

-Finally, ignore all my complaints and closed my ticket.

All that without reaching any solution.

Fortunately, I found this page: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw, with a good collection of firmwares and prepared to try them all.

-The DAP-1360 firmware v2.11 FW B1 and B1 DAP-1360 FW v2.12 and its variants had the same problem: the clients are disconnected from the access point.

-The firmware: DAP-1360 B1 FW v2.00b17: I have not tested.

-The firmware DAP-1360 Firmware v2.10 FW B1 (for WW): with it, I could put the access point mode "Only G" and MAC filtering is unlimited. With "G Only" setting it,  I can work with 20 clients connected simultaneously using WPA / TKIP in the last two days.

Problems encountered:

-The firmware load fails often. The most stable form is loading it from a Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7 connected to the same switch that the access point.

-Firmware 2.12:  leaves the default IP in the range 10.0.0.X/255.0.0.0, not 192.168.0.50

-Sometimes there is no choice but to put the access point into recovery mode to load the firmware: unplug  the power, press reset button for 3-5 seconds, plug the power and wait 10 seconds more with the reset button pressed. Then, load the firmware from the 192.168.0.50 page

Conclusion: it works, but only as 802.11-G only.  Not really a wifi-N  if you plan to connect more than 2-3 devices.

Thanks for your help and excuse my terrible English.

So Firmware v2.10 FW B1 is the best version that you are now using?

Anytime you load FW it should be done wired to the device. Don't use wireless to upgrade. The devices should have a problem upgrading. If your using IE7 thru 9, try using Compatibility mode when sending FW or try using a different browser like FF.

Well, sounds like you found a good solution and a good working FW version. Hope it works well for you. Enjoy.

Yes. Only with this firmware, I can select "Only G" mode and add unlimited (no just eight) devices to MAC filter's list. The connection never dropped even with more than 20 devices connected simultaneously.

True, clearly more stable configuration to load new firmware without errors has been wired connection and Internet Explorer 7.

Thanks you again for your support, it's more reliable and efficient than the dlink official support.
