DIR-628 Keeps Going Back To The Log-In Page
« on: July 19, 2012, 11:50:46 AM »

I have a DIR-628 and I'm able to successfully log in, however, after a few seconds, it takes me back to the log in page.  What can I do to correct this?

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF and does it happen there too? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Hardware version is A2.  Firmware version is 1.25NA, 2010/11/12.
I'm in Vernon, BC, Canada.

The machine that keeps getting booted back to the log-in page is a Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 64 bit machine which is hardwired.  I noticed that when I go to the status page with that machine, none of the LAN Computers are listed.  I only get a few seconds to do anything before I get booted.  I tried to administer it with FF, but I still got booted right away.  I changed the IE setting to compatability mode and I still get booted.

Out of curiousity, I tried to administer the router with a new laptop which is running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit and is connected wirelessly.  It seems to work fine.  I don't get booted, I can make changes and I can see the LAN Computers.  Both machines are running IE9.  I haven't adjusted any settings yet on the laptop.

My wireless set up is: 802.11 Band: 2.4GHz; 802.11 Mode: Mixed; Security: WPA-Personal; Sec Mode: WPA or WPA2; Cipher: TKIP or AES.

Interesting that Vista exhibits this and 7 doesn't.  :-\
I might presume there is something going on between Vista and the router.  :-\
You have the latest FW.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz.
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Seemed like kind of a shot gun approach to me, so I never tried it until last night.  It seems to have solved the problem.  Thanks.
