DCS-2230 - New firmware 1.10 (for WW)
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:45:34 AM »

Dear sirs,
I advice all of you that on D-Link global support site ( http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/ ) you can find the new firmware release 1.10.02 for WW users (that is ALL worldwide users). I suggest all of you to upgrade the firmware as the first fw (1.00) is really an ugly firmware. Enjoy it.

To download it, go on a/m site, select DCS / 2230, and then use link "Firmware:DCS-2230 A1 FW v1.10 (for WW)". You will find two files, one .bin file (the firmware) and one .doc file (the release note).

New Features
======================================
1.   Add the manual trigger API.
2.   Add IPv6, QoS, CoS, RTSP multicast, RTSP digest authentication
3.   Enhance FTP to establish sub directory, Recoding size change to 50MB or 60 sec., Event video clip support up to 5MB.
4.   Enhance DDNS account and password length to 63

Problems fixed
======================================
1.   Fix firmware version display bug
2.   Fixed the recording re-write stop issue.
3.   Fixed the event schedule fail when start time big than end time.
4.   Fixed the samba server test fail at the different default router settings.
5.   Fixed the Gmail test error issue.
6.   Fixed the non-IE Browser guest can’t get the video stream.
7.   Fix event action choice bug
8.   Fix bug: DDNS name with special characters cannot work
9.   Fix alarm status API.

I think there's a mistake on the web site. If I go to http://tsd.dlink.com.tw and then select DCS 2230 one of the description says "Firmware:DCS-2230 A1 FW v1.10 (for WW)" but when I click on it the firmware file is called DCS-2230_V1.00.02.bin

Can somebody please advise what to do. Is it the wrong file or is it only mislabeled?

Brgds...   /Jonas

PS. Below you can see a screenshot of what it looks like...

The DCS-2230 ever released a firmware version 1.00.02, which leads me to believe that the file name has a typo.  However, I can't state this with 100% certainty, so we'll have to either wait for some clarification from D-Link or validation from other early adopters of this firmware.

I've installed the firmware now and can confirm that it's only a typo on the file name. Even though the file says 1.00 it will in fact install 1.10.

I just installed this version and am pleased to see that my old complaint about the FTP video clip names not  showing the time stamp in the YYYYMMDD format has been addressed. However, I don't see any sub-directories created in FTP and I still can't view the video stream in the Chrome browser. It tries to run QuickTime in the video frame which seems to be stuck in the start-up mode with an hour glass showing. The IE browser does not use QuickTime, so why is Chrome trying to use it?

I also don't understand what this manual API is supposed to be good for. Any examples?

Yes, I did. This is what I get instead of the video stream:

Joe Public,

I have not visited this forum for quite a while. I am currently using an older firmware version that I downloaded from a Russian D-Link site. I preferred this version because, compared to the original firmware, it increased the number of events to 3, number of servers to 5, media configurations to 5, file size to 5MB, and several other enhancements. The release notes for the 1.10 firmware do not mention any of these enhancements. Can you please tell me whether the new firmware has the same limitations as the original firmware with respect to number of events, etc. Thank you.

Hi all,

I found this thread by searching "dlink 2230 firmware" on Google. I'm very happy to see that there is a new firmware.

But ...

Now, I'm very, very angry!

Let me told you what's wrong with this new firmware (I just upgraded ... shame, when I see the pricetag of this camera and the quality! A smartphone could do better!) :
- after the update, my camera (using wifi), never comed back (lost of wifi key => have to plug cable, set wifi key and was OK)
- this camera is connected to Synology DS411+II (an enterprise model) ...
- now, recorded video (with Synology) are all broken and inexploitable!
- using Synology DS Cam .. show you broken picture (very useful ...)

So, I don't know if the problem I get come from Synology or from Dlink. I have to admin that when using my Web browser (Chromium, under Ubuntu), I can see live camera without problem ... exepted that the sound is also dead! Before that upgrade, image and video was working (I have to execute an "old" plugin, but after that, it was working as exepted. Now, the camera seems to use a newer method to access live video .. no more "old" plugin required .. but no more sound!).

So, let me summarize the benefit of this firmware using Synology (or even direct connect to that camera) :
- no more "live" sound
- recorded (Synology) video are broken (huge glitch on image)
- recorded (Synology) sound are unusable (simply noise, nothing more, nothing less)
- no better security (guest account!!!)

I tried, with Synology, to set the camera using ONVIF (I used that at the first time with my Synology, not yet compatible with that camera), without more success : same glitches ...
On my Ubuntu, the plugin used by Chromium was a plugin from Totem (double click => full screen).
Now, no more fullscreen possible, I don't know which system is used by Chromium/camera, but it's not the same as before, and it's not working as expected.

Let me add more things :
- there is a "guest" account
- we simply can NOT remove that accound (I upgraded because of that hope)
- and, of course, we simply can NOT change password
- this is an UNACCEPTABLE SECURITY HOLE! (alo, alo ???)

What's your answer to all these problems ?

I will open a thread to Synology, and past the link to this thread.

I really hope to get a solution. For more than 200€, it's NOT acceptable to get these glitches!

I hope you heart me : let me show your solution.

Last question : where and how can I downgrade to the "original glitchy_but_working" firmware ???

Thanks for reading me (and sorry for my big frustration).

EDIT: here are the post to Synology : http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6773&p=255504#p255504

Hello RYAT3,

Thanks for your quick answer.

The current version, right now, is : Firmware Version   1.10.02 (copy/past).

I downloaded the firmware using the ".fr" DLink Web site. So, I've not used the link on the first post of this topic.

Thanks for the "guest" accound : I will read that now.

Do you know if there is a way to downgrade the firmware ?

EDIT: I've tried to download firmware from the link above (first message), but it was not possible (only 35Kb can ben downloaded, no more ...)

EDIT2: the link to "guest" accound .. don't bring any solution... This is very .. not cool ...

EDIT3: I found a place where to download an old firmware : ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DCS/DCS-2230/Firmware/

Do you think it's Ok if I downgrade it ?

No idea.  Mine came with the latest.

People do downgrade their f/w on iUSBport without issues.

I think you don't have much to lose.
