Problems connecting with DWA-556
« on: December 05, 2011, 08:26:38 PM »

I just got my DIR-645 today and I am happy with it, except for one rather large issue.  Signal strength is very good anywhere in the house and all but one device is able to connect with no issues in the slightest.  The only device that is unable to connect is my personal computer which has a D-Link DWA-556 PCI-e wireless adapter.

The computer is running Windows 7 x64.  I have been using the DWA-556 in the computer for months with no problems (connected to an old linksys wireless router).  The moment I switched over to the DIR-645, I was unable to connect to the network.  I am able to see the wireless network, prompted for wireless password, I am even granted an IP by the DHCP, but all network access after that is unavailable.  When I try to ping the router I receive a "destination host unreachable" message.  Assigning myself an IP address does not help.

I have updated the firmware on the DIR-645, updated the drivers for the DWA-556, even tried 3rd party modded drivers for the DWA-556 and nothing has helped.

I would be grateful for any help.

Does the 645 have Wireless LAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection options under Advanced/Advanced wireless?

Some things to try:
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Turn off Short GI if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
