SD card recording 5MB only
« on: January 20, 2021, 01:56:01 PM »

Hello,

Is there a way to record longer video to the SD card? 5MB is nothing these days.

Thanks

Have not tried using SD card on this model yet, but would be good to check the speed class of the SD card, especially if the 1920x1080 @ 15fps is used, might be hitting limit on burst/sustained writing speed of your SD card.  The reason for mentioning this is that I initially had the DCS-8526LH on Wifi (AC1200 Access Point) with 1GE link into the rest of the home network to write to the Synology NAS (1 additional switch with all 1GE ports), this could not support sustained recording either, until I used physical Ethernet cable to connect the camera to a 1GE port on that same AC1200 Access Point, trouble free recording after that.

The video recording duration on an SD card depends on various factors, including the camera or device you're using and the video quality settings you have selected. Here are a few suggestions that might help you record longer videos:

Lower video quality: If your camera or device allows it, you can lower the video quality settings to reduce the file size. Lower quality settings typically result in smaller file sizes, allowing for longer recording durations. However, keep in mind that lowering the quality might also affect the overall video resolution and clarity.

Use a higher-capacity SD card: Ensure that you are using an SD card with a higher storage capacity. SD cards come in various capacities, ranging from a few gigabytes to several terabytes. Upgrading to a higher-capacity card will provide more storage space for video recordings.

Consider a different video codec: Some cameras or devices offer different video codecs that can compress videos more efficiently without significant loss in quality. Look for options that provide better compression algorithms, such as H.265 or HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding), which can reduce file sizes while maintaining video quality.

Trim or edit videos: If you are unable to record longer videos due to storage limitations, you can consider trimming or editing your recorded videos. This allows you to remove unnecessary sections and create shorter clips that fit within the storage capacity.

Regularly transfer or offload your recorded videos from the SD card to another storage device, such as a computer, external hard drive, or cloud storage, to free up space on the SD card, much like adjusting a  shower door hinge for smooth operation., you can continue recording without interruptions.

It's worth noting that the specific options available to you will depend on the camera or device you're using. Refer to the user manual or documentation for your camera or device to explore the available settings and features related to video recording and storage.
