the 4500 does not support or have any IPv6 features and probably wont. DLink might support it in there next follow on to the 4500. Haven't seen and OEM yet with support as of yet.

DIR-615 supports IPv6, but honestly, you don't have to worry about it seriously for a good 5 years or so. Also..Green? Green refers to something that is energy effecient. IPv6 is a different way of giving out a IP address. Not related. None in the DGL line are green though, and we wouldn't want them to be. Green is usually a trade off for performance.

I assumed he meant "goes green" as in they "give the green light" for IPv6.

Ahhh, gotchya. Thats a good way down the road though, and even when they start supporting it, it will be a hybrid system most likly, so IPv6 devices will still work. Not saying thats set in stone by any means, but I would find it very unlikly that they would shoot themselfs in the foot by not having some serious legacy support. Good question though.

someone posted a pdf on our competitors forum about there router being IPv6 ready..Hmm...wheres the UI. LOL. What does it mean when something is ready. It can handle it, they just haven't installed the supporting UI yet?

Well on some it means it can give out IPv6 on the LAN. Other it means it can on the WAN and LAN. The DIR-615 is a pretty ground level router and it have IPv6 capable. But you can't have IPv6 unless the ISP supports it, so the IPv6 ready routers are like the HDTV ready TVs. They can support the protocol but not by itself.

Nice. Ya, you have  UI  there. I didn't see one on the competitors unit. I posted asking if there is a UI or not.

Can D-link create a firmware upgrade for the DGL-4500 to allow support for IPv6? I am not very familiar with these stuff.

Can they? Sure. Will they? I doabt it, that would be a huge upgrade, and mods have said their limited by the amount of memory on the DGL. Maybe if they got rid of WISH and parental controls.

Do we even know for sure there will be a next gen? Probably waiting for a new 802. standard. Which is a good 3-4 years away. And thats just draft. I think its 802.11ac?

BTW, which standard do you think will win out? I like AC because it brings up some interesting options in backwards compatibilty.
