I turned off the iTunes server a while ago and have just tried switching it back on, but my local iTunes doesn't see a server.

Does anyone know if this has been broken again by Apple? My iTunes version is 10.2.2.12 presently. It was working previously in 10.1

Woohoo!  I just figured out, after many hours of searching the Internet, why my D-Link 323 wasn't showing in ITunes as a Shared device.

Do not select "Root" in the itunes SERVER configuration page.

I had to point directly to my music folder "called MP3" in Volume_1 and it popped up right away.
(Volume_1/Shared Data/Music/MP3)

I had also tried "Shared Data" but it didn't work.  Maybe it didn't like the other type of file/extension.  ???

Hope it fixes your problems too.

I'm having problems with the iTunes server as well.  I'm running Windows XP on a laptop over wireless G or one gigabit connection (hard wired).  I have 1.10 firmware, latest beta version and iTunes version 10.4.1.10.

When I sync the iTunes server on the NAS to only one subfolder of music it sees it just fine such as

\\DLINK\MEDIA\MUSIC\2PAC

If I try the entire MUSIC folder (has 9,233 files with 44 GB) it will not sync.  It tries at first to start, but it doesn't catch even though I am on the hard wire and wait a couple hours.

\\DLINK\MEDIA\MUSIC\

Is it just too many files?

I have the latest iTunes version and just updated to the latest iPhone software.  It still doesn't show up.

Looks like I just have too much music I'm trying on the iTunes server with the NAS.

I recently updated iTunes (Windows) to version 10.6.0.40 and now it works with the "iTunes Server" feature of my NetGear DNS-323.  With 10.5 iTunes would briefly flash the contents of my "nas" under "SHARED" but then the focus would switch back to "LIBRARY->Music".  Now with 10.6.0.40 the focus will stay on my "nas" under "SHARED" and I can play music through this share.  FYI, my DNS-323 is running v1.10 firmware.

Problem Solved!

Awesome!  I'll try it tonight when I get home and report my results.

I found for me it works if the size of the files in the iTunes share folder are less than 5.0 GB.  If I go over 5.0GB then it will only show up in my iTunes for a minute and disappear.

I'm running Windows XP over a wireless N network.  I haven't tried it wired yet because I mostly am wireless.

Gordon, what is the size of the share folder you have in your iTunes share folder on your DNS?
