Title: DWA 131 drops connection.... and goes crazy!!
Post by: Volgrand on June 20, 2012, 05:16:52 PM
I bough a dwa 131 nano wireles adapter. At start seemed to work well, but shortly after it started to work badly.
Thinking that I may had been infected by a virus or a trojan, I decided to completelly format my computer. But there were no changes in the behaviour of the wireless nano adapter.

I'm using windows 7 home edition.
As a note, my computer (obviously) didnt have a wifi adapter, but yes it has an ethernet card (which I used to use to connect to the router by cable, but now I'm unable).

Please help, I'm desperate for a solution.

ink>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0)
What wireless modes are you using on the host router?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

I tried everything. I finished by buying a PLC system (the one that permits you to use the electric wire system to connect it to the internet through the router). Nothing worked to make my dwa 131 working properly. My connection finished dropping, in the best cases, from 5 megabytes per second (my normal speed) to 25 Kbbs.

Really dissapointed with DWA. It was a waste of money. I hope someone wants to buy it back...

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
Does the DWA act the same way if you take it to a different wireless AP location, say a friend, family or neighbors place?

If you feel the unit is bad then contact DLink support and ask for an RMA.
