devices stay offline

I bought 4 of this in May, I found they were working so well that i bought 4 more in September. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer especially after they fixed the problem of not able to schedule overnight with the new update. I even recommended to a few of my friends.

However, lately my dlink apps on my cell phone frequently shows offline of the device every now and then, sometimes just one or two devices, sometimes all of them are offline. It's very frustrating because they can only be turned back online with someone at home to unplug and plug back the devices. I will be out of luck if no one is at home to help...

Can someone tell me if this is the app problem that needs to be updated or what? because I have tried to turn off my router, the devices goes offline but they are smart enough and can automatically re-connect to my router after my router is back on. I just do not understand why they stay offline so often and can't re-connect automatically...

Please help...

Looks like this thread was dead but my issue matches the thread name so I'll add this here.

I have DCS-2330L cameras at a remote unattended site that has intermittent power interruptions.  As I've written in other threads, these cameras have an incredibly short attention span after power-on to join their assigned user network before they quit trying.  My Netgear R6400 router takes about 2 minutes from power on to start connecting up network devices and the cameras have already gone dormant by that time.  Thus, I would lose all my 2330L cameras at my remote site when a power interruption occurred.  Note that I also have DCS-2630L cams which DO NOT suffer from this problem and a newly added DCS-960 that also survived a long outage.

To resolve this issue, I added a UPS to the router and the DSL modem to keep the network up during a power outage that doesn't exceed about 90 minutes.  This resolved the 2330L linkup issue so long as power to the camera is restored before the UPS expires.  However, some outages do exceed the UPS backup time at this location.

To resolve this I just added DSP-W110 (FW revision 2.04) power switches in front of the DCS-2330L cameras.  The idea here is that I would be able to remotely power cycle the cameras following a long power outage after the network is back up to bring them back online.

While on site we had a power outage that was long enough to knock out the UPS and the one 2330L that was in operation at the time.  That cam did have a W110 in front of it.  Everything behaved as expected:  the camera failed to come back online and I was able to restart the camera by power cycling the camera from the remote switch after it came back online.

Prior to leaving the site I added two more W110s to my network, one in front of the ethernet switch for my POE cams and one in front of another 2330L cam.

Two days after leaving we had an extended power outage and I again lost my 2330L cams.  Unfortunately, one of the W110s that was in front of a 2330L DID NOT COME BACK ONLINE.  I have remotely power cycled (my UPS has an internet-connected ethernet port) my DSL modem and router multiple times trying to get that switch to come back online but with no success. 

I will be back on site in three months.  Until then, I've got a camera that would have been offline without a remote power switch and a power switch that was meant to work around the offline camera that also went offline.  I had commented in my other threads that I was concerned that I could be fixing a problem with a device that hopefully didn't have the same or similar problem.  I think I have the answer now.

FYI, all devices in my system which can be assigned static addresses are assigned.  Similarly, I've reserved those IP addresses for all devices in my system and assigned them to MAC addresses.  Thus, I should not have addresses moving around.

One interesting note:  When looking at the attached devices list on my router, it shows a line with the MAC address of the offline power switch but it does not show an IP address assigned to that device.  All other listed attached devices show both the MAC addresses and their assigned IP addresses.  I'm not sure exactly what this means but it appears that the router DOES see the W110 switch but there is some reason why it does not complete the reserved IP address assignment as it does for all of the other devices.

Just sharing my experiences trying to create a robust and fault tolerant remote surveillance system.

Now I'm really puzzled.  Just when you think you've figured out how these devices "really" work they throw in  a new twist.  A few days have gone by since my posting and the DSP-W110 that had gone offline has mysteriously come back online and I can now power-on the DCS-2330L that is underneath it.  There have been no AC power interruptions logged by the smart UPS that would explain why it changed states.  Though a welcome change I'd like to understand what caused it to go offline in the first place.

Could be anything. Interferences, MDL service issues. Etc.
