Guide to DD-WRT (custom firmware) for DIR-615

Sorry to jump on this old old old thread, but I borrowed and Ethernet dongle (Here's how mature I am:  I giggle every time I use that word) for the express purpose of installing DD-WRT to my DIR-615, so I'm hoping to get answers and get this done so I can return it.

A DD-WRT instruction at https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-615C tells me I have to find the "hardware ID" buried in my original firmware, then hex edit the new firmware to put that in.

Information I've seen on these forums never seems to indicate that as necessary.

Has anyone done this recently, who can tell me?
