Just upgraded to OSX Lion today and noticed Time Machine back ups weren't connecting anymore. Anyone else experience the same? It was working fine under Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Guess I have to wait for D-Link to update their firmware again?

Have the same problem. TM is not working after upgrade :(
I hope the new fw will be release soon ...

I have the same Problem. Please fix it!

Also having a similar problem:
"Time Machine Error
The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features"

It would seem like the existing netatalk version has compatibility issue with Lion.

Same here, had to go back to snow leopard. An Engineer said they were looking into it in this thread

Maybe "Carbon copy cloner" from bombich software can help you. (and it's free)
You can create a bootable copy of your drive, and my advice is to create a sparsebundle on the NAS and copy to it.
You can schedule backups.

Netatalk 2.2 is now available. Does it mean D-Link will soon solve the Time machine issue?
-
Looks like there's a workaround for now:

I'd be more comfortable with an 'official' version via an upgraded firmware for the dns-320.

The Issue:
LION has changed the authentication method of AFP from DHCAST128 to DHX2.
http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/21/lion-drops-support-for-third-party-backup-with-a-nas-in-time-machine/
The Work Around:
The most faster way to solve this problem is : follow the below workaround to enable the DHCAST128 in LION.

Gotta love Apple!

Hmm I can't seem to get that fix to work.

Me either; I tried it 3x and I can't get it to work. :'(

This only enables Lion to connect to old netatalk / afp features. However, it does not allow Time Machine on Lion to work with the DNS-320.
Upgrading the netatalk version to 2.2 will allow both AFP access and Time Machine support on Lion.

I'm a pretty novice MAC user. Does anyone know how to 'undo' the terminal commands I typed in to try that fix?

You can't just 'undo' terminal commands in most cases (but there may be an inverse command). It depends on the exact command you have executed, so you need to be more specific.
Also, with regard to this, the shadowandy method detailed here: http://www.shadowandy.net/2011/08/time-machine-on-lion-with-dns-320.htm
...it works perfectly. There are just a few CNID warnings - so look in the comments and you will see I've posted a way to get around the CNID warnings. Result = 100% working TimeMachine as in Snow Leopard.
This is the best solution for now, any solution that involves modifying Lion itself may result in compromising security.
The official DLink update will be most welcome, but also, you may be waiting for a while!

Merged Ben Archer's findings into the guide. Now my OS X Lion is happily backing up to the D-Link DNS-320. Check out how to upgrade netatalk on your funplug-ed D-Link DNS-320 to support Time Machine and AFP on Mac OS X Lion (http://www.shadowandy.net/2011/08/time-machine-on-lion-with-dns-320.htm)

bump, for an easier way to fix this problem.
