DNS-343 End Of Life?
« on: March 04, 2010, 06:41:20 AM »

Is the 343 EOL? Is there any further development expected? We're closing in on the end of Q1 and yet the "news" section of the DLink support site is completely empty. No updates to any products at all. Should we users be concerned about the lack of forward progress on any of the issues mentioned on these boards?

I've been asking myself the same question.  The DNS-343 is a great product, but the lack of recent activity (and product age) gets me wondering as to whether there is a replacement model on the horizon.

DNS-343 is not EOL. We already have plans for 1.04 but most resources are tied up for other launches at this time.

Thats good to know, as i find the DNS-343 to be a great product and actually prefer using it over the DNS-323 which seems to be supported a lot more.

I would personally feel like "killing" d-link if dns-343 would become EOL so soon. In my opinion it's a product with a lot of potential if the firmware will be a little bit more mature. It still has some glitches regarding functionality of various features.

Indeed, I too have the impression that dns-323 receives more attention from d-link in regard to firmware updates.

Wow, I am just visiting this thread. I have a DNS 323 and DNS 321 and was considering if t 343 would be a good choice.

But if you guys think the 323 is getting all the attention I guess I will back off. Yes, they just came out with the 1.08 firmware release. But it had been better than a year since the release of 1.06. (1.07 added only a new drive support.) All this time we users suffered from the e-mail notification no longer working--broken in 1.06 and not fixed until 14 months later. (Actually, some people still do not have it working.) There were other long standing issues--still are.

The DNS-343 is a solid product (firmware development efforts aside).  You may want to focus your purchasing decision more on your storage/redundancy needs and product performance/reputation rather than the D-Link firmware development efforts.

One of the big projects D-Link is involved in is the Boxee Box - which will compliment the DNS-323/343 nicely. Everyone should check it out : http://www.boxee.tv/box

I can't wait :)

Oau! It looks so... unconventional. Nice.

I'm glad to see more and more manufacturers of media players appear on the market. This makes competition more interesting and more products for us to choose from at an affordable price.

Aha! So that's why D-link is not fixing the DNS-323 SMB compatibility with TViX 6500!... :)

yes i have to agree that the 343 is a lot better than the 323 well more costly than 323 but nothing good comes for free... just hope in 3~5 years the 343 will still be out there and used... ;D

i have 4 - 323 and 2 - 343 and going on...

I'm patiently waiting for the next round of firmware upgrades.  Even though it's a solid product, with a few more tweaks to the firmware, the DNS-343 can be that much better.
