Title: Router will drop wifi broadcast if it gets too hot.
Post by: kargo27 on September 11, 2012, 02:52:27 PM
Just an FYI.

I had placed my 857 on top of my LCD TV thinking it would get better air circulation.  Well, even with having 75% of it hanging "in air" the core of it was laying on the 2" wide top of the TV.  After a while the router quit broadcasting wifi on both 2.4Ghz and 5.2Ghz.

I rebooted it and moved it to a wire rack and it's working fine.

Routers are not tested to withstand additional heat sources so it was getting additional heat from the TV which probably could not dissipate.

Always keep the router on a flat surface away from other electronics or use a perforated surface or rack system that allows good ventilation.

Enjoy.
