Mac Shareport chokes on multifunction printer (solved)
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:11:06 PM »

Mac OS X 10.6.3, Shareport 3.0, Brother DCP-8070D multifunction device.

Printing works most of the time, but scanning does not at all. Generally the Brother device has very nice, stable, and small drivers without any mandatory, but unneeded software bloat. I liked that especially about this model. Sadly a package of highly conforming drivers doesn't mean that it would work over Shareport. The system just doesn't find any connected scanner over Shareport, only wired directly.

It can't be that hard to just wrap USB into IP frames and else just behave as a regular USB host driver. Please fix this.

For reference, I have found a way to make it work:

When you uninstall all Brother drivers and let Mac OS X install a bare bones driver from Apple, that doesn't inlcude Brother's USB monitoring apps, everything works fine.
