Help with Port Forwarding
« on: May 06, 2011, 07:46:28 AM »

So, I'm looking for some help.

I bought the game Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and was trying to play the Multiplayer option, but it didn't work. So I looked around and it seemed like I had to forward some ports on my router (first port 1000 and then some other ports if that didn't work). So I forwarded the said ports and it still didn't work.

Turns out the ports never opened. I used to port checker program to see if the ports are open, but they're not.

What am I doing wrong? I even got a port configurator, but it still doesn't work. Can anybody help me out?

EDIT: I don't know if this will help, but I'm running on Windows 7, all the firmware/drivers are up to date. Also I'm using a DLink DWA-140 USB Wireless Adapter to connect with the router downstairs. I don't know if that has anything to do with it??

Make sure you have UPnP enabled on the Router, this is all you should have to do as UPnP will handle the opening and closing of ports you need to play the game.

Have you setup DHCP Reserved IP addresses for your PC on the router?
Ensure windows is set up to Auto Obtain IP addressing.
Is the DNS IP addressing filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Ensure DNS relay is ON. Turn off Advanced DNS Services.

How is the Port Forwarding and Application rules setup?

If by "DHCP Reserved IP addresses" you mean static IP address, then yes. I've already given my computer a static IP address and Auto Obtain IP addressing is set up on Windows.

I'm...not a hundred percent sure about what you're asking about (I'm not super clued up on all of this), but this is what my Setup/Internet/Manual screen looks like before Advanced DNS Services is turned off:

And after Advanced DNS Services is turned off:

As far as the Port Forwarding is concerned:

And I didn't know that I had to fill anything in the Application rules, so it's empty:

It's possible that you might need to set up Application rules too.

Best way to get a game to work online is to see if they have a forum like this at the Game's website.  There might be posts just like the ones in where with exact settings that you need to get the game to work.  Also while you are there check for any patches to the game.

I've set up the Application rules and it still doesn't work.

Ensure you DHCP reserve the following address for this rule and the PC: 192.168.0.198
Ensure Advanced DNS Service is off
Ensure DNS relay is ON.

Remove the application rule and this set up a QoS rule:
Name: Assassins Creed
Priority: 10
Protocol: Both
Local IP Range: 192.168.0.198  to 192.168.0.198
Local Port Range: 0 to  65535
Remote IP Range: 0.0.0.0  to  255.255.255.255
Remote Port Range: 0  to 65535
Turn off Dynamic Frangmentation

Tried all that. Still doesn't work.

Would it make a difference if I put the computer into the DMZ?
