My situation is that I have a DIR 655 router running on the latest firmware version 2.11 and I am trying to print wirelessly between my printer and my iPad.Everything seems to work fine until my printer goes into sleep mode once it does that I cannot get the iPad to wake the printer up and print. However everything works fine on my PC when my printer is asleep. If I decide to print something from my PC when my printer is sleeping it will wake up and print appropriately. However once my printer goes to sleep my iPad will no longer see my printer on the network until I power cycle the printer at which point everything will work fine until the printer goes to sleep again.

I have made sure that my router firewall is set to end point independent on both TCP and UDP. I have also made sure that I have multicast streams enabled.I don't know what else to do so I hope that someone on the forums may be able to provide me with some guidance

Thanks

Sounds like a possible handshake function is loss on the WiFi between the printer and router as when the iPad attempts to connect, the WiFi on the printer is asleep as well and fail to recognize someone is knocking at the door. Is the PC wired or wireless to the router? Possible that when the printer is sleeping, the WiFi is no longer active and isn't keeping the connection alive possibly.

Is the printer only wireless connected to the router?
What model is the printer?
Does this printer have a USB or wired LAN connection?

Can you disable the sleep function on the printer any?

Thank you for the reply

Answering your questions in the order that you asked

Yes, the printer is only connected wirelessly to the router
the model of the printer is HP Officejet 6700 Premium
the printer does have an ethernet port on the back of it however it is my desire to try to remain wireless

The printer's sleep function cannot be disabled the maximum amount of time before sleep is initiated can be set to 15 minutes.

One very interesting thing that happens is that when the printer is asleep my home computers will wake up the printer and print with no problem. However with my iPad once the printer goes to sleep my iPad will not recognize the printer on my network anymore.

One of the things I have noticed is that if I print from my computer, after I do  that the iPad will once again recognize my printer until the printer goes to sleep.

I have done some research and it seems that the DIR 655 has problems with Bonjour I have read that the solution to this problem would be to upgrade my router. If that is what I need to do which router would be best? I want to try to stick with a router that has external antennas I have been looking at the DIR 825 or 835

Please keep in mind however that if this issue can be resolved that would be the ideal situation

Can you test the printer LAN wired connected to the router and test the iPad?

Are the other PCs wired or wireless connected to the router that wake the printer?

Since other PCs wake the printer and the iPad does not, possible there could be a issue on the Apple side as well.

Not sure if this would help any here:

All of the PCs on my network are wireless except for one and they all wake the printer up with no problem. I am not trying to use air print from my computer, this is specifically for my iPad.

In your opinion what would be the best successor to this router? The DIR 825 or the DIR 835? The reason I ask is because all of the information that I have read points to the fact that the DIR 655 does not play nice with Bonjour and the DIR 825 and 835 seem to work well

I don't use Airprint so not sure which one would be good in that regards. I have had both and they are good routers. the 835 supports 450Mb WiFi 5Ghz connections. If you have devices that can support that, it would be of some benefit.

One other suggestion to make, if the WiFi on the 655 doesn't work with the iPad or AirPrint, I wonder if adding a different D-Link DAP wifi would work instead of having to get a new router...

it's not that it doesn't work, it works until my printer is asleep then the iPad won't see the printer even though the printer never loses wifi connection. I'm pretty sure the issue is the bonjour doesn't play nice with this router

I take reviews with a grain of salt. Most issues stem from user mis-configurations and environment conditions. I've tested most of D-Links routers out and they all work out of the box. Aside some compatibility issues seen here and there and differences in features...they work and work well.

Is there anything else you think we can try on the 655

Try turning off Short GI. I don't think Rev B has HT-20/40 Co-exhistence. Or Id have you disable that. You might try as a test, disable WiFi security on the router and test the iPad with the printer in sleep mode. Does it wake? Turn security back on after.
