I made the mistake of upgrading my A4 1.21EU to the 1.31EU as the GUI said it was available upon checking.
Had massive amounts of Wi-Fi drops so went to the D-link FTP and downloaded 1.21EUb05 lo and behold my router yet again runs the 1.21 firmware.
Is it using some kind of Frankenstein build now?

This is really interesting - I too thought it was not possible to go back!
Did you do the "Factory Reset" after installing the latest version? My understanding is that this is what "cements" the new version into the machine, and if that is not done, one can still have loads of problems as the new version is not totally set - but I could be wrong and interested as to other peoples' opinions!

I did NOT do the factory reset...
I'll try and experiment by upgrading again to latest and then reset

Updated to 1.31EU 2010 1/14 once again and then did the physical reset on the router followed by the factory reset and rebot via the GUI and I'm still able to downgrade to 1.21EU 2008 11/3.

Is this still the case. Also what are the improvements over the 1.21EU
Running with the 1.21EU and found out that there is a new update from the GUI, checking the dlink website i found a newer version but older date.
From GUI:
Latest Firmware Version : 1.31EU
Latest Firmware Date :2011-1-25
Dlink.se
Latest Firmware Version : 1.31EUB02
Latest Firmware Date : 18/01/2010
Also these notes:
Note 1: This firmware does not allow downgrading
So how is it again?
