Is there a limit to the number of files in the UPNP Media Centre?

I've had a DNS-345 for about 12 months now. I recently updated FW to 1.04b02, since then I've noticed that not all my files in the UPNP media centre when I refresh the shares, the one I have for all my Son's stuff quickly refreshes and finished, however when I try to refresh my library (which is much larger) it gets to between 85% - 90% and stops dead. Never finishes, even when I reboot. I contacted DLink, but their suggestion was a factory reset which 'might loose all my data'. Looking at the forum FAQ here it suggests it might not, so....

1. Has anyone had this issue with the library not completing the Db setup?
2. As I don't have a spare 8tb of space, what is the likelyhood of loosing data on a factory reset?
