Title: DIR-868L wifi/wan rebooting regularly
Post by: Esieens on November 22, 2016, 03:37:51 PM
Hi,

About 5 days ago my DIR-868L Rev A bought in 2013 started losing wifi and WAN connection at the same time multiple times a day. Sometimes it will take an hour or two between two instances. Sometimes just a couple of minutes.

I thought my router was just faulty and purchased a new DIR-868L. Unfortunately the same issue is happening again.

So it looks like this is something else.

I live in a detached house so very few other wifi signals near me.

What else should I be looking at to try to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks!

IF two of the same router is experiencing the same problem then there is a problem else where...

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

As previously stated, this started about 5 days ago. Used to work perfectly well. Bought a new router, loaded same configuration. Got same issue.

Both WAN and Wifi do go down when it happens see logs extract below.

I use both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ wifi networks.  I have tried a few channels, made no difference.
Tried to turn off 2.4GHZ network all together - no difference.

I live in a rural area so very few other wifi networks next to me.

When this happens, can you access the routers web page?
What modem BT modem do you have?

On the new router, I'd like you to do a factory reset and this time, do not load the saved configuration from file. Use default settings, set up the WiFi SSID and PW and try setting the WAN port speed to 100Mb instead of Auto and test.

Thank you - will try this tomorrow or Friday.

I have fiber broadband - one of the first modem from BT for fiber. I'll find the details when I get home.

Ok I think I found the problem and it was all my fault... ;(

My router is plugged into a power backup and I had recently changed the power saving options of this appliance. It seems it was causing the router to shut down from time to time.

Glad you found the root cause.

Enjoy.  ;)
