Title: DIR-655 will not connect to cable modem
Post by: dacon on December 10, 2010, 11:03:56 AM
 >:( I have a D-Link DIR-655 router connected to a Motorola Surfboard cable modem from Comcast.  I am using Network Magic and it shows the LAN working fine with all PCs showing connected. It also shows the Internet is not connected to the router.  I can direct connect a PC to the modem and connect to the Internet, but when I connect the same PC to the router, I get no connection to the Internet.
I have upgraded the firmware to 1.34NA. I have WPA2 set as security.  I have gone thru numerous tries at rebooting with various connections with no success.
Why is the router not getting an IP from the modem? I have it set to use DHCP.  The router is only a little over a year old.  I have experienced similar connection problems with older D-Links in the past and am thinking about changing brands if this is not resolved.

You need to power cycle the cable modem when switching the connection from the PC to the Router.
