Xbox Live d/c
« on: October 09, 2011, 03:24:29 PM »

I don't know if anyone has tested this but whenever I do System Link on Gears of War 3 one of the systems gets booted off Xbox live while the other one stays connected.

My router is setup according to the Xbox Live sticky only difference is a few wireless settings.

As for the Xboxs one is wired and the new one is hooked up via Wirelessly.

As for the Gamefuel stuff again from the sticky but I don't know why I get booted off Live on System Link (essentially its a Lan).

AFAIK Nothing shows up in my log with Firewall & Security, System and Critical are checked on the other 3 arent.

I've even hard coded in the IP, gateway and DNS for the xboxs I'm also using openDNS for now.

EDIT: I've had a second look at the sticky and I've removed the rules for adding additional xboxes, I had 2 gamefuel rules xbox 1 and xbox 2 which maybe caused the issue but I need to test this and report my findings later on.

Are you connecting the xboxes to the router or do you have a external switch by chance?

Both are connected to the router one is hard wired and the other is wireless.  As for a switch I don't have one.  I just tested it again without the rules and it still happens.  If we are not using system link no d/cs occur.

No I have 2 xboxes one is wired into the router the other is connected wireless.  System link for Xbox games is for lan parties but we are using it atm since I can't afford to pay for 2 Xbox live gold accounts.

So when your using system link, do you have other xboxes online for these LAN parities?

It's just those 2 xboxes plus 2 computers and a laptop but most of the time they are idle.  I might check outgoing the Xbox forums if they have more info lol

Let us know...maybe someone on here can check your router settings to be sure. This is a first. Most of us have single and multiple xboxes however mainly play XBL and don't play system link. I have 3, maybe I'll fire them up and see what I can do to reproduce this problem.

Well my router settings are:
802.11 Mode - Mixed N/G (used to be B/G/N but I no longer have B devices in use)
802.11 Band - 2.4 Ghz
Wireless Channel 11 (used to be Auto but a neighbour's wireless is overlapping on Channels 1 and 2 :P)
Transmission Rate - Auto
Channel Width - Auto
SSID Hidden
WPA2 Personal TKIP & AES

Gamefuel
Auto Classification Enabled
Auto Uplink Speed
As for the rules I'm using the ones from the updated section from your sticky.

Advanced Wireless:
Transmit Power - High
Beacon period - 100
RTS - 2346
Frag - 2346
WMM Enabled
Short GI Enabled
Extra Wireless Disabled

WISH - Enabled with all settings on

UpNp - Enabled

Thats about it for settings I suspect there might be something wrong with System Link but I'll have to email xbox about it or see if their forums have any solutions.

You can disable SHORT GI and WMM. You can disable WISH if your not using it for stream video over wireless. I don't use it and havn't seen any issues with it off.

According to the instructions, they either all have to be wired, or all wireless. Thats because when wireless and system link, it creates a ad-hoc network. And when they are connected wirelessly, they aren't connecting to the router at all, but to each other.

Oh is that the case?  Thanks for finding it out I appreciate it but I think its kind of dumb why I can't have a system link with Wired and Wireless =/  I might have to hard wire in the new 360 Slim to test.

As for the Short GI and WMM I enabled those for testing but I also read what they did in the help section.  My brother watches a lot of online streams on our family laptop so I'm not sure if that helps with the traffic or not.

For me, I have WMM enabled, as well as WISH since I stream a lot myself.  Don't forget to check Enable Multicast Streams under Advanced --> Advanced network also.

Short GI is not a 'cut and dry' setting.  I find my network works better with it off.  Test it yourself while your brother is streaming.

Does XBL use multicast addresses? Maybe Netflix in the 360, but I don't see how it would work through XBL itself.

That's a good point.
