SMB-to-SMB direct copy
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:40:07 AM »

Does the standard firmware include a way to directly copy or move data to a DNS-343 from another SMB device?  I'd like to migrate a bunch of data to my new DNS-343 from another file server, but I'd rather not have to pass it through my PC.

Have you used the backup feature on the unit.

I'm trying to figure it out right now, but the documentation is sparse.  It looks like I can download single files to my DNS-343 via HTTP or FTP, but I can't find an example that uses an SMB URL or specifies a whole folder instead of a single file.  Can you point me to a more detailed description (other than the owner's manual)?

Thanks!

To download from an SMB share just enter it as you would accessing it on your PC with \\ and then the address. There is a drop down that allows you to select file or folder.
