DIR-825 AC1200 Wi-Fi Gigabit Router queries

I'm about to purchase this router "DIR-825 AC1200 Wi-Fi Gigabit Router" but have few queries before ordering.

My prime moto is USB Storage and its connectivity.
I will be connecting a 500gb external powered WD hard drive to the port for downloads and data sharing with other network devices.

So I hope all Android devices like phones and Tvs can recognize the attached hard drive and play data from it.

Also, do I need to Upgrade the firmware after installation or can I be good with the stock firmware came bundled?

And can we any means can we also Downgrade the firmware?

Finally, does this router suffers from any issues faced by users here so I can take those into account before deciding?
