DIR-825 switches to 20MHz shortly
« on: September 04, 2013, 04:50:38 AM »

As I said before, DIR-825 won't enable 40MHz in manual wireless channel mode.
Now I've noticed that it'll switch to 20MHz as soon as it works a few minutes in 40MHz >:(
I have no problem with Linksys/TP-Link

Doe it do with with all devices?
Test with one device at a time?
What devices are you connecting to the 825?

This is single mode N, Manual Channel, Auto 20/40Mhz, WPA2 and AES only?

I have noticed the issue was the Intel old driver from Windows Update.
Even Fat Channel Intolerant wasn't the problem.
I'll test more to ensure the problem is totally away ;)

Unfortunately, the latest driver didn't help that much too :(
The problem is only Intel WiFi 5100 >:(

I'll test it with TP-Link router and post the result.

Have you check your power options?
Power Saving Mode for Wireless Adapter should be Maximum Performance and Minimum and Maximum Processor State should be 100%.

Seems it was a conflict between them, the 5100 was faulty too.

I use Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wireless adapter. Its maximum speed is 150 Mbps (40 MHz) and I get the maximum after cold boot DIR-825. I guess there is something wrong in dlink green implementation (FW=2.09EUb09), because now my speed is only 65 Mbps (20 MHz). The parameters of DIR-825 are only N, Auto Channel Scan, Auto 20/40 MHz, WPA2, AES.

Any other wifi routers or clients that dont support 40mhz? Could be some interferences...

Got the latest driver from atheros.cz?
825 is tricky, no way to force it to stay at 40MHz, no issue with TP-Link.

Today my test was the following: 1. cold boot DIR-825, 2. iPhone 4S connected to the WLAN and the status was Mode=802.11g (bug?) Rate=65M, 3. AR9002 connected to the router and the status was Mode=802.11n Rate=150M.
All worked fine over 60 minutes and then I disconnected iPhone. After that the Rate of AR9002 was 121M! And the WLAN connection status was "Limited Access". So I had to reconnect to WLAN and after that the status was Mode=802.11n Rate=150M.
There is something in the router, but today I can't repeat this problem.
I use version 10.0.0.255 for AR9002 (Win7).

This is another story. It may happen due to long distance, signal conflict or maybe your WLAN chip got weak.
Try with another device or router.

So were you able to get this figured out and working for you?

Mine was a conflict between 825 and Intel 5100 that used to force the router to work in 20MHz even though Fat Channel was disabled.
The problem was that 825 couldn't switch to 40MHz after that so I had to reboot.
I didn't use 5100 anymore and seems it's working all the time in 40MHz :-\
