Can I use my DIR-855 as an Access point/wireless switch ?
« on: December 24, 2010, 05:42:02 AM »

I've got a DIR-655, but the wireless range is not good enough for my house.
I've bought a DIR-855 to use in addition to the DIR-655..

I've also got a DAP-1522 (connected wireless), but the speed of this is very low.. 1 Mb/s .
Is this because it's "almost out of range"?

The wireless (655 and/or 1522) does not cover the entire house..
I've used a CAT5 to the other side of the house, and has a DGS-1005D switch there. But no wireless..

Can I connect the DIR-855 (or the DIR-655) to this cat5, and use the DIR-855 as a switch, with wireless capabilities?
I'd like to use the DIR-855 there, for displaying the connection, speed a.s.o.
The alternative is to use the "old 655" there.. but why should I do so?
Any reason to put the 855 first in line?

Anyone with a "network for Dummies" explanation for me ?  ::)

The dir 855 is the fastest one the dir 855 is slower. Both the cannot be set up as wds, because dlink has disbale this option. The only thing you can do is use cabel and set the dir855 or dir655 as en ap.

I should use the dir855 on the internet side.

Thanks!

I guess you meant to say that the DIR-655 is slower..?
In what way?

Will I get faster internet connection if I put DIR-855 closest to the internet modem?
Or is it the speed to the peripherals that will increase with the 855 first in line?

A different reason for me to put DIR-655 first, is that I can't get the Shareport on that one to work with a webcam.. I'd like to cover my back door (where the AP will be) with one of those.. I suspect the newer DIR-855 to be more "up-to-date" on this..
