Author Topic: Suggestion to DLink: US firmware should be available for all like in Linksys  (Read 3372 times)

Hi. We used to use Linksys router but when our ISP changed the DSL modem from Nokia to Zyxel, we noticed that DLink seemed to be more compatible with the Zyxel modem- it must be that both are companies are from taiwan which could mean they both might have the same parts supplier and coding techniques, we theorized. It worked though, coz' we don't have to reset the modem every so often as we did when we still used Linksys.

I have to say the Linksys has a better firmware upgrade system and the interface is a little cleaner but it's not that significant, both modems are great. With Linksys, you can use the US firmware which is always the priority when it comes to the latest firmware version without any warning on the firmware page or warranty being void (it must have the same model and version of course). They do have specific firmware for other countries too if you choose to flash with that but it's usually not as updated as the US one. But Linksys's lack of warning suggests that users could use the US firmware regardless of country.

I have to suggest though that DLink should have a centralized firmware update for all countries for routers with the same version and model. If Linksys could do it, it should be possible too with DLink.
